What is the Difference Between Raspberry Pi and Arduino

Today, there exist various technologies in the software as well as computer science industry. Almost every single thing can be done by using computers and other electronic gadgets. However, these gadgets consist of different parts that come together with their independent functions and carry out several tasks. The software structure differ from one another and also the type of microprocessors that are used for making these devices are different. Some computers are also made up of a single board. Two of these are 1. Raspberry Pi and 2. Arduino.

Raspberry Pi vs Arduino

The main difference between Raspberry Pi and Arduino is that the boards Raspberry Pi has complex software as well as hardware structure, on the other hand, the board structure of software and hardware by Arduino is simpler. The boards manufactured by Arduino make use of lesser RAM than that consumed by Arduino.

Many developing countries have a developing information technology industry as well. However, the education of many students requires these technologies as well. To make sure that they get the necessary material the Raspberry Pi computers were designed and released on 24 February 2012. The original model of the computer that used this board was much more famous than the upgraded models that were produced later on.

Arduino is an electronic platform that was created for simpler hardware and software structure and those that are easy to use. A set of instructions are supposed to be sent to the microcontroller to exactly tell the computer boardices task that is to be performed. The two basic necessary things for that are the programming language and the software by Arduino itself.

Comparison Table Between Raspberry Pi and Arduino

What is Raspberry Pi?

Raspberry Pi is is a type of computer that is based on a single board. The company, Raspberry Pi foundation released these computers in the United Kingdom. They were released on 24 February 2012. After the release of the original model the target usage was made by the people and out of the target usage it was also used for robotics.

The Raspberry Pi has an open design and it is modular. It has a special adoption to various devices based on HDMI and USB. It can work on several operating systems like Linux, Plan 9, FreeBSD, Raspberry Pi operating system etc. Other than that it can also work on NetBSD, OpenBSD, RISC operating system etc.

The main motive of the foundation that manufactures Raspberry Pi computers are to promote the teaching of various concepts in computer science and technology in schools and colleges. Among all the other British companies that manufacture computers, Raspberry Pi is the best selling computer.

The computers are produced in various places around the globe. However, the major manufacturing takes place in Wales. Other than that, the computers are also manufactured in China and Japan. These computers are also used in monitoring weather, out of target usage like robotics etc.

What is Arduino?

The Arduino computers are also one of the popular computers. The boards produced by Arduino are capable of reading inputs and outputs. The inputs include a light on sensor, twitter notification etc, the outputs include online publishing, starting a motor, lighting a LED light etc.

The user of the computer can send instructions regarding their task that is accepted by the microcontroller of the board. For doing this, the user must require a programming language from Arduino based on the wiring of the computer and based on the processing software from Arduino.

Arduino has been a part of various projects. These projects are of different complexities. Right from easy projects based on everyday objects to complex scientific gadgets, Arduino has been used widely. Arduino is open-source platform that is used by many students, coders, programmers, artists etc.

Arduino was released in the Interactive Design Institue in the hear 2005 in Italy. It was released by taking into consideration that it was going to be used as a tool for fast prototyping. They focused on how students that have a background in computer science, coding and programming can make the most use out of it.

Main Differences Between Raspberry Pi and Arduino

  1. The control unit from the Atmega family is used in Arduino, on the other hand, the control unit from the ARM family is used in Raspberry Pi.
  2. The board from Raspberry Pi is microcontroller-based, on the other hand, the board from Arduino is microprocessor- based.
  3. The main use of Arduino board is to control and manage the circuits and the electrical elements that are connected to them, on the other hand, the main use of Raspberry Pi is to evaluate the data and the input and the output of the evaluated data.
  4. The structure of hardware and software from Raspberry Pi is complex, on the other hand, the structure of hardware and software from Arduino is simpler.
  5. The board from Raspberry Pi uses more RAM, on the other hand, the board from Arduino uses less RAM.
  6. Raspberry Pi is comparatively costlier than Arduino.
  7. The board from Raspberry Pi consumes more power, on the other hand, the board from Arduino consumes comparatively less power.

Conclusion

Both Arduino and Raspberry Pi are extremely useful boards in the world of computer science and technology. They are used for making some best selling computers that are manufactured for many purposes like educational use, robotics, monitoring weather, coding, programming, software development etc. The institute that manufactured both the boards made educational use as their target usage but these boards are also used in various other fields and are capable of carrying out several complex scientific tasks.
