Plants are the very basic element of the earth. Plants are the first thing that evolved on the earth. There are different types of plants are available in the world. Plants are responsible for the world’s oxygen. Flowers are used for various purposes. Plants are used in medicine, makeup products, etc.
Plant vs Flower
The main difference between plant and flower is that plant is a living organism that consists of the stem, roots, leaves, flowers, fruits, etc. On the other hand, the flower is a part of the plant. The flowers are present in the plants as reproductive parts and converted into edible parts later. Some plants can also contain epidermal growth in the stem, which is called thorns.
Plants belong to the kingdom of Plantae. They are photosynthetic eukaryotes. Plants are multi-cellular organisms. Photosynthesis is the process where plants obtain their food. The chloroplasts give a green color to the plants. The plants may be parasitic or mycotrophic. These plants may not produce enough food, but still, they have flowers, fruits, and seeds. Both sexual and asexual production plants are available. Around 320,000 species of plants are available on the earth. Those denote the great majority with around 260 plants producing seeds.
The flower is also called bloom or blossom. The flower is the reproductive part of the plants. The flower is responsible for the union of sperm and eggs. There are two types of pollination are available. They are self-pollination and cross-pollination. Self-pollination is pollination within the same flowers. Cross-pollination is pollination with another flower. Even without fertilization, some flowers produce diaspores without fertilization. The ovary develops into a flower after fertilization. Flowers are used as ornamental things. Some flowers are used as medicines.
Comparison Table Between Plants and Flowers
What is Plant?
Plants provide a substantial molecular portion of the world. They produce oxygen which is the essential thing for the survival of human beings. Plants have many uses in ornaments, writing materials, and building materials. Many plants are used as a source of medicines. Botany is the scientific study of plants. Aristotle made the distinction between plants in 384 BC. The modern system of classification is created by Linnaeus in 1707. The increasing levels of complexity resulted in the evolution of the plants.
Plants are the basic components of the world. The plants are composed of cell walls. The cell walls contain cellulose. The parts of the plant are root, leaves, seed, fruit, flower, pollen, and spores. Plant fossils are available worldwide. The fossil plants converted to coal after millions of years. The leaf is the primary part of the plant for the photosynthesis process. The atmosphere is responsible for most of the solid material present in the plant. Chlorophyll has magnesium pigment.
Many factors affect the plant’s growth. The plants take the nutrients from the soil. Nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium are taken from the soil. The energy is provided by oxygen and glucose to the plants. Plants such as mangroves and reeds are submerged aquatics.
What is Flower?
The flower is the middle English word. It comes from the Latin word. Blossom is the early word of the flower in English. There are two essential parts available in the flowers. They are the vegetative part and reproductive part. The vegetative part has petals along with perianth. There are wide ranges of floral structures are available. The flowers help the botanist to make a relationship between different plants. Depending on the position of the flower with a receptacle will decide the parts of the flowers.
In the family Ranunculaceae, the petals are reduced, and in many species, sepals have colorful structures. Scientist uses systematic way to distinguish plants since flowers have great variation. Most of the parts of flowers are fused. These flowers are called sympetalous or gamopetalous. From the determined meristem, the flowers are developed on a modified shoot. Reproduction is the principal purpose of the flower.
The flowering plants are heterosporous.
Flowers have both functional carpels and stamens in the majority of species. These flowers are called perfect bisexual flowers by the botanist. These species are also called hermaphroditic. But some plants have only one reproductive organ in the flowers. It is called unisexual. If a plant has only both reproductive organs, then it is called monoecious. If a plant with same-sex flowers, then it is called dioecious.
Main Difference Between Plants and Flowers
- Plants are green, whereas flowers are colorful.
- The leaves present in the plants can produce food from sunlight, whereas flowers can not produce food.
- Plants are living organisms with various parts, whereas flower is one part of the plant.
- When compared to a plant, the flower does not have an independent life of its own.
- Plants are responsible for the production of oxygen, whereas flowers do not produce oxygen.
Conclusion
A plant is a living organism. The flower is a part of the flower. The plant is the organism that exhales oxygen, whereas the flower is the reproductive and edible part of the plant. The plant can able to produce its food through the photosynthesis process. They absorb various nutrients from the soil. Flowers consist of pollen grains, which are responsible for the reproduction of plants. The flower slowly changed to fruit through the fertilization process. Then it becomes an edible part. Most of the plants are green in color. The leaves are responsible for the photosynthesis process. Flowers are used as attractive things and also for ornamental uses.
