What is the Difference Between Excel and Sheet

Microsoft Excel and Google Sheet are some of the most popular spreadsheet applications. They are almost the same, but there are areas in which they differ, like the performance, space and analysis, and many more. They both have the data and columns in the form of tables along with many formulas to help out in calculation.

Excel vs Sheet

The main difference between excel and sheet lies in the tools for analyzing. Excel is furnished with the best tools for statistical analysis. The user has to just enter the data and select the tool, and it will automatically analyze and give the result. On the other hand, to perform the analysis part in the sheet, the user has to enter the data manually.

Excel is an offline mode spreadsheet that is created by Microsoft. It is one of the first spreadsheets that became popular among firms, and it was first launched in the year 1987. It is considered the best when it comes to the analyzing part. It consists of macros that function as the main part of analyzing the data.

The sheet is a product made by Google for its clients to utilize the accounting sheet through a web-based mode. It can be, used online and offline mode. When using the sheet, it automatically saves the data when it is connected to the internet. Thus, there is no tension even if the system gets shut down by any malfunction.

Comparison Table Between Excel and Sheet

What is Excel?

Excel is an offline spreadsheet product that was developed by Microsoft in the year 1987.

It is perhaps the earliest accounting sheet that became well known among the firm for working out measurable information. Excel is a part of the MS Office package.

The excel sheet is, organized in rows and columns with the supported tables.

These rows and columns are, divided into small rectangular blocks called cells. The data is entered inside these cells.

It has the function to analyze the data automatically. It is done with the help of the macro operation, which is available in the excel sheets.

The sheets consist of many formulas which are used for calculating mathematical equations. Excel sheet provides good performance for the large volume of data.

As the excel sheet is available in only the offline mode, thus there is a chance to lose the data when there is a sudden power cut or when the computer gets shut down due to malfunction.

Excel supports many languages to store the data. A user in excel can store the data in 91 languages which are supported by the MS Office.

Compared to Google sheets, excel is not good at collaborating, i.e. it cannot be shared via a link to the user, and there is no option to chat with the user in the sheet.

What is Sheet?

Google launched the sheet in the year 2006. It was embarked to provide free access to the spreadsheet function and to fill the gap between the users for sharing.

Google sheet is the second most popular spreadsheet that is gaining interest among the firms. Google is known for its highly accurate functioning of products.

The sheet is accessible both on the web and offline mode. When the PC is linked to the web, it saves the information in the cloud.

It gives the user advantage from losing any data due to any malfunction. The sheet can also be accessed in offline mode, but it does not save the data in the cloud when it is in offline mode.

When it comes to the analysis part in Google sheet, it is generally done manually, as it does not have the function of macro that handles automatic calculations.

A user in Google sheet can save the data in many languages. It can be accessed in 83 languages that are supported by Google systems.

It has high performance for the small volume of data compared to excel, which provides higher performance for a larger volume of data.

A user in google sheet can share the user link of the sheet to the other user for viewing and access. It also supports that chatting option for the user with whom the file is shared.

Main Differences Between Excel and Sheet

  1. Excel is the product of Microsoft, and it was first launched in the year 1987, whereas the sheet was developed by Google and was first launched in the year 2006.
  2. Excel supports the macros function, i.e. used for automated calculation of the statistical data, while the google sheet does not support any macro function. Thus, the data over here has to be entered manually.
  3. Excel is a part of MS Office, and it includes cost, hence to use the spreadsheet, the user has to buy it, whereas google sheets are free for Google users.
  4. Excel does not have the option of chat and user link sharing, whereas Google sheet has both functions. A user can share the sheet via the link, and it can also chat with the user over the google sheet.
  5. A user in excel can store the data in 91 languages supported by the Microsoft systems, while the user in the sheet can store the data in 83 languages supported by Google systems.

Conclusion

Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets are some of the most commonly used applications when it comes to analyzing and storing statistical data.

Both the application have their advantages and disadvantages. For example, Excel does not have an option to share it via a link, but the sheet does have this option.

For a user who does not want to pay any money and still wants to use the option of the spreadsheet, then Google sheet is the best option.

Usually, the performance is high when the data is stored in bulk in excel, whereas, in the google sheet, it is vice-versa. It provides higher performance for fewer data.
