What is the Difference Between Confidence and Cocky

When we achieve something, the feeling of accomplishment is followed by an increase in the confidence of doing that thing, as well as a sense of self-assurance, which is rooted in the understanding of our capabilities and our abilities. An emotional change is common during such situations, as confidence plays a huge role in the emotions we display.

Confidence vs Cocky

The main difference between Confidence and Cocky is that confidence is based on the self-assurance that a person has, pertaining to his skills, abilities, and capabilities. On the other hand, being Cocky is related to the overconfidence that the person has, which is based on the person’s pre-existing insecurities about the topic.

Confidence is a collection of feelings as emotions that a person experiences after the completion of something arduous and tedious. An increase in the level of confidence is realized when the person receives feedback of self-assurance over his or her skills and abilities, through the completion of the task or work.

Being cocky or Cockiness is a feeling of extreme overconfidence, to the point that the person places their belief in their skills and abilities, to a high position, very near to the state of disillusion. Thus a person acts cocky when he or she is completely disillusioned about his or her capabilities.

What is Confidence?

Confidence is a collection of emotions and feelings that a person realizes after the completion of an arduous and tedious task or work. The sense of accomplishment gives rise to a feeling of trust in the person, regarding the skills, strengths, and abilities of the person.

This feeling of self-assurance pertaining to the skills and capabilities of the person is the base of the confidence that the person realizes. Thus confidence is rooted on the grounds of self-faith and trust over one’s capabilities.

As the person realizes his strengths and capabilities, the mindset of the person also broadens and the person achieves an overall increase in the positivity of their outlook.

Confidence also humbles the person, as he understands the worth of having achieved the task, as well as the worth of having the particular set of skills for achieving the task.

The sense of trust over one’s capabilities also brings about a sense of inner calm in the person, as the person now understands how to use their set of skills and qualities to their benefit.

The humility achieved from confidence also reduces the feeling of superiority that the person has, thus making the person more helpful and giving in nature.

What is Cocky?

Being cocky or cockiness is a change in a person’s perspective in terms of the skills and abilities they have. Usually, the cocky person views their inherent abilities and capabilities to be way above the nominal levels, to the point that they have an absurdly powerful and capable image of themselves.

This kind of person image is completely baseless and is for the most part based on the faulty judgments of capabilities that the person has in his mind. A cocky person is thus extremely overconfident, vain, and highly delusional.

Cockiness is different from being confident, as when a person is confident, there is hard evidence of success in his or her work to back the self-assurance of being confident.

On the other hand, when a person is cocky, there is no actual solid proof or evidence for backing the heightened sense of self-pride. The self-assurance that the person receives is based on faulty success.

A cocky person is also highly vain and considers themself to be above the rest of the demographic, in terms of intellectual content as well as in terms of his or her capabilities.

As such people lack humility, almost 90 percent of the time, there is little to no room for improvement in terms of correcting the behavioral patterns of the person, as well as correcting the faulty sense of self-assurance that the person has.

Conclusion

Being confident and being cocky is separated by a very thin line. Both these perspectives stem from the same set of ideas that a person might have. But the behavioral patterns shown by the person are completely different in either of the cases.

A confident person is humble, down-to-earth, helpful, and polite in his outward appearance. The confidence is grounded on the self-assurance that the person has over his abilities and capabilities.

A cocky person is over-confident, extremely delusional, and self-centered. The cockiness stems from the faulty self-assurance and faith that the person has over his abilities, which inherently are based on his delusional sense of judgment.
