House is a very common word to describe a place where a person can live. But in today’s time, the word house is not enough to describe where you live. The reason behind that is that there are so many options when it comes to houses, such as a penthouse, villa, bungalow, farmhouse, duplex, cottage, townhouse, and more.

All of these houses have several dissimilarities in one or the other way which make them differ from each other, such as construction, area, design, and more. Apartments and flats are two more types, which might be counted under the same category, that is a house, but they have certain dissimilarities.

Apartment vs Flat

The main difference between an apartment and a flat is that an apartment is a word used in American English to describe a set of rooms. On the other hand, a flat is a word used in British English used to refer to the same meaning as the word apartment, that is, a set of rooms.

An apartment is a set of rooms that is mainly referred to as in American English. Moreover, an apartment is constructed while keeping the American standards of living in mind. A flat is a set of rooms which is mainly referred to as in British English. Moreover, just like an apartment, a flat is also built while keeping the British standards of living in mind. Such types of flats are majorly found in the UK and Asian countries. In most common cases, a flat has a single storey only, however, in certain cases it can have more than one storey.
