The latest viral social media trend on TikTok is gaining popularity, prompting authorities around the United States to issue warnings to their communities about the possible risks. The innocuous-sounding Orbeez Challenge, like other viral challenges, is causing harm, according to cops.
People are seen playing with a few gel balls in TikTok posts under the hashtag #OrbeezChallenge. On the other hand, others broadcast films of themselves shooting other people using a gun loaded with Orbeez balls.
Orbeez’s manufacturer, Spin Master, said to NPR, “At Spin Master, we prioritize the safety of our products for children, and we are dedicated to offering the highest-quality toys, games, and activities to children and their families. Gel pistols are not manufactured or sold by Spin Master.”
What Is Orbeez Challenge On TikTok?
The “Orbeez” challenge invites kids to blast Orbeez water beads from toy air pistols at strangers and each other while recording themselves doing so. Across the United States, police are receiving reports of people being hit by the beads in random drive-by events. And the toys can occasionally resemble actual guns.
According to investigators, the little gel balls might cause injury.
In Dearborn, a juvenile was detained and charged with assault after shooting at several spectators.
There have been multiple reports of children being prosecuted around the country, including four Arizona teenagers who are facing aggravated assault charges for firing air guns at random people from moving automobiles.
Trend Start From Royse City High School Shooting
According to the most current information, Royse City High School has been under lockdown since Friday morning. A group of students reportedly sparked fear, according to the police.
According to a news outlet, a group of kids at Royse City High School in Texas has been placed on lockdown. The assault occurred at Royse City High School in Rockwall County, northeast of Dallas, according to police.
According to the officials, a few teenagers used Airsoft or BB guns on campus. It was part of a TikTok trending challenge known as the Orbeez challenge.
Officers discovered three airsoft rifles, one airsoft pistol, and a BB gun among the children, later found to be partaking in the “Orbeez Challenge,” a TikTok trend in which students shot pellets at each other.
The difficulty is a “senseless and dangerous trend that disrupts school environments around the country.” According to the police department, which also notes that it puts a strain on law enforcement resources because officers must respond to each incident as if it were an active-shooter call.
How To Do Orbeez Challenge?
The “Orbeez Challenge” involves using air guns to shoot Orbeez — gel beads that expand in water — at people.
Orbeez gel beads are more significant than a BB, roughly half the size of a marble.
The manufacturer is advertising a new playset product based on the Orbeez Challenge on TikTok on the Orbeez website, seemingly ignorant of the viral trend’s unpleasant turn.
The challenge is firing Orbeez balls at strangers with a toy gun, with the act frequently being recorded and then shared on social media. The projectile beads can cause serious injury to sensitive bodily parts.
