What Is Netflix’s New Show Dance Monsters & How Does It Work?

Dance Monsters CGI works with real people behind the stage who will control their characters through motion capture suits.

CGI monsters make the show stand out, but it is more than that. It has become a way for the amateur dancers who had their own story of not being able to face the world with confidence or be professional dancers to perform in front of a large crowd.

The show has released three episodes on Netflix to date. The other three episodes will be available to watch on December 23, and the last two will be available on December 30.

How Does Dance Monsters CGI Work On Netflix?

Dance Monsters CGI works with real humans dancing off stage while their avatar show up on stage. Each human contestant will be given a monster alter ego to dance as.

But neither the viewers nor the judges can see the real person behind the monsters. Everyone will see them making daring dance moves, but none of the dancers will be on stage.

In the trailer, some of the contestants wearing their motion capture suits were seen sharing how they have issues of confidence in the real world. Some said they doubted themselves, while others said the show was a life-changing experience and they believed they could be professional dancers.

However, the audience will learn about their story and struggles during the show’s eight episodes and see them overcoming the physical and mental obstacles that have stopped them from dancing professionally.

There will be five rounds throughout the series. And 15 monsters will compete in duets and one-on-one dance battles. There will be three heats in the first round, and five monsters will compete.

Judges will name three safe monsters while the two in the unsafe zone will face off against each other and impress the panel so they can continue their journey. One will be eliminated from each heat, and the remaining will go to round two. There will be two heats, and four monsters will be eliminated while the other will go to the quarter-final.

Two monsters will be out from the quarter-final, and the remaining six will go to the semi-final. Only four will be eligible to compete in the finale from that round. In the end, the panel of judges will vote for one contestant who will receive the title of Ultimate Dance Monster and a $250,000 prize, as per Netflix.

What Does The Audience See On Dance Monsters?

The audience will see the alter ego version of the contestants in the show, Dance Monsters. Their characters will be seen dancing on the stage while they make a move backstage.

Neither the judge nor the audience will see their real face until they are out of the show. No one would know where they are controlling the moves from, not even the host Ashley Roberts.

Three judges will decide who will continue the show and whose journey will end. The judges on the panel are Ne-Yo, Lele Pons, and Ashley Banjo. Ne-Yo is a singer and songwriter but has danced in music videos and on stage in his concert and shows. He was also a contestant in Season 2 of The Masked Singer UK.

Lele Pons is an internet celebrity with 90 million followers who fans can find dancing on Tiktok regularly. Likewise, Ashley Banjo is a choreographer and UK’s biggest street dancer. He has been a contestant and judge in a dancing show previously.

With host Roberts to guide the audience and judges throughout the show, the monsters will showcase their dancing skills to the world while explaining how their CGI characters have helped them perform for the audience.
