Who is Miguel Leon Tyson?
Miguel Leon Tyson was born in 2002, in the United States of America, and is only known through being the son of legendary boxer Mike Tyson. His father is considered one of the strongest heavyweight boxers of all time, becoming the undisputed world champion and holding many belts since he was 20 years old.
The Wealth of Miguel Leon Tyson
As of early-2020, Miguel Leon Tyson’s net worth probably only benefits from the success of his father. Mike Tyson has a net worth estimated to be over $3 million, earned mostly through a successful boxing career, although there was a point in time when he enjoyed wealth of over $300 million, thanks to lucrative boxing contracts, endorsements, and other income.
However, criminal actions, poor investments and the high life have led him to lose a lot of it.
Life So Far
Miguel Leon spent most of his childhood away from the spotlight, as most of the attention was in his father’s successful yet controversial life. Mike is known to have fathered at least eight children with three different women. He was a child from one of his father’s relationships, with Sol Xochiti though they never married, and of whom there is no other information, other than that she apparently still has intermittent contact with Mike Tyson.
Miguel grew up alongside a younger sister who passed away suddenly after an accident on a treadmill. He was seven years old at the time, when he found his sister who was only four, dangling from a cord after attempting to play on the treadmill. She was rushed to hospital but wasn’t able to be resuscitated.
The next report about his life came when he was 15 years old and began approaching his father to use boxing for his fitness regimen. Despite just starting, he showed a lot of potential, with heavy hits, agility and vigor – his father posted about his son’s training on social media with a video.
A lot of his fans believed that Miguel could pursue a career in the profession, but his father denied that his son had any intention for that, and was only doing it for the exercise.
Father – Mike Tyson
Mike grew up in a financially destitute household, which led him to move around. His father abandoned the family, and his mother passed away when he was 16 years old.. He learned how to fight in the streets, partly due to the rampant crime in his area. Eventually, one of the counselors in a juvenile detention center saw his potential for boxing and he began training in the sport. He came under the guardianship of famous boxing trainer Cus D’Amato.
His first fights were highly successful, as he won two golds in two separate Junior Olympic Games. In 1985 he made his professional debut, and won 26 of his first 28 fights by knock-out (KO) or via technical knockout (TKO). The following year, his fights became televised and Mike showcased his ability to win quickly. This also led to his first title fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) title, which he won during the second round against Trevor Berbick. At this point, he became the youngest ever heavyweight champion with many of his challengers intimidated by his strength, speed, accuracy, and timing.
The Success of Tyson and the Downfall
Within a year, Mike gained two more championships, defeating James Smith for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) and Tony Tucker for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles, making history by becoming the first heavyweight to hold all three boxing titles simultaneously. Afterward, he had over nine title challengers, successfully defending each time, maintaining his title as undisputed champion.
However, things came to a sudden halt when he was convicted of the rape of an 18-year-old girl. Physicians saw that the girl had signs of rape on her while Tyson defended that everything was done with consent.
He was sentenced to six years in prison after his appeal failed, but he only served three years, and in a youth penitentiary center. During this time, he converted to Islam, having discovered it while imprisoned.
The Comeback and Life After
After his return, Mike worked to regain his titles, winning the WBA and WBC titles once more. However, he lost the title against Evander Holyfield, and their rematch was stopped after Tyson bit Holyfield’s ears. After a few years of boxing, he eventually retired from the sport as he was no longer in his prime.
His retirement also brought about the fact that he had lost a lot of his $300 million wealth earned from boxing, and that he was in debt of around $23 million, partly due to problems with alcohol, child support and bad financial decisions.
He eventually bounced back from his debt with the help of accountants and other financial experts. Since leaving the sport, he’s made a lot of endorsements and television appearances. He published the book “Undisputed Truth” which became a New York Times Best Seller. He also ventured into acting and attended mixed martial arts events. In 2017, it was announced that he would become the face for commercials of the franchise Ultra Tune. He also released another book at around the same time called “Iron Ambition”, which details his time living and training with Cus D’Amato.
Personal Life
Miguel Leon is single and while he doesn’t make a lot of public appearances, he has not been seen in any possible romantic relationships. His father settled down in 2009, in his third marriage to longtime girlfriend Kiki Spicer. Miguel attended the private wedding which was held in La Bella Wedding Chapel at the Las Vegas Hilton. His father has been open about his struggles with alcoholism and his life with sobriety. He is also a big supporter of Donald Trump though it is not known if his son shares the same views. Despite his faults, his father is still considered a boxing legend and icon, with many hoping that Miguel will prove to be of the same caliber. However, he has yet to make any moves in the sport, even as an amateur.
