NFL draft hopeful Jalen Carter is charged with misdemeanors for racing and reckless driving in relation to the January accident that claimed the lives of two University of Georgia football players.
Carter turned himself into authorities Wednesday night and was freed shortly after.
The most significant development from the NFL scouting combine this week was Carter’s involvement in the incident.
Carter, a standout defensive lineman, is a probable top-five pick in the 2023 NFL draft after his college career during which he helped the Georgia football team win consecutive national titles.
He met with many organizations at the combine in Indianapolis before turning his attention to his off-field concern.
What is Jalen Carter Accused of?
In connection with its investigation into the incident on January 15, which resulted in the deaths of Georgia recruiting worker Chandler LeCroy and offensive lineman Devin Willock, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Carter.
In addition to racing, Carter is charged with reckless driving, both of which are misdemeanors.
The ACCPD investigation found that Carter, in a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk, and LeCroy, in a 2021 Ford Expedition, was driving in a manner consistent with racing immediately after leaving the downtown Athens area at around 2:30 a.m. local time.
According to the investigation, both vehicles made lane changes, drove in the center turn lane, traveled in opposing directions, passed other vehicles, and traveled at high speeds in an apparent effort to outdistance one another.
According to the inquiry, the Expedition was driving at roughly 104 miles per hour shortly before the incident. According to the toxicology results, LeCroy’s blood alcohol percentage was.197 at the time of the crash.
