Jack William Nicklaus, nicknamed The Golden Bear, was born on January 21, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio, United States. He was raised alongside his siblings Barnable Nicklaus and Marilyn Hutchinson.
Jack Nicklaus was brought up in the suburb of Upper Arlington. He was born to his parents, Helen Schoener and Charlie Nicklaus. He is of German descent. His father Charlie worked as a pharmacist and CEO of Nicklaus Drug Store.
Jack Nicklaus’s father Charlie Nicklaus passed away due to pancreatic cancer at age of fifty-six. Nicklaus attended Upper Arlington High School, before proceeding to Ohio State University where he won the U.S. Amateur twice (1959, 1961), as well as an NCAA Championship (1961).
Jack Nicklaus won the U.S. Amateur in 1959 and 1961 and has finished second in the 1960 U.S. Open. He became a professional at age 21 toward the end of 1961, earning his first professional victory at the 1962 U.S. Open. He has won 117 professional tournaments in his career.
