TikTok, infamous for breaking the internet with some of the strangest fads, has created yet another viral craze, the “Fractal wood-burning” art style.
Despite being less popular than the platform’s dances and recipes, art trends have their fan following.
Consequently, when the fractal burning craze became widespread, many people experimented with it, but this is a dangerous trend that should not be attempted.
What Is Fractal Burning TikTok?
The fractal burning craze has been popular on TikTok since 2020, with a possible resurgence in February 2022.
In the Lichtenberg art trend, people utilize a high-voltage transformer, sometimes from a microwave oven, to flow electricity through wood goods soaked in a chemical solution.
The use of high-voltage electricity to burn wood and the chemical put into it results in art-like artwork on the wood. The completed product is typically reminiscent of tree or plant branches.
Some people go the further mile by pouring resin on top of the artwork to give it a more artistic aspect.
On the other hand, Fractal burning is not something you should experiment with at home.
Wood Burning Art That Led To Wisconsin Couple Electrocuted
A Wisconsin couple was slain while attempting to make art using the famous TikTok app.
According to WSAW, the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office was summoned to a residence in Rozeville, Wisconsin, on April 6 due to a fire that started in the garage and spread to the house.
They uncovered the couple’s remains and, after further investigation, learned that the victims had been electrocuted during fractal burning, a popular social media fad.
It was a sad accident, according to the police. High-voltage electricity is used in fractal burning to produce designs on chemical-soaked wood.
Authorities warn that it is exceedingly risky and should only be performed by highly experienced personnel.
Fractal Burning Origin and Trend videos
A high-voltage transformer, commonly reused from a microwave oven, is generally used in the fractal burning process to flow electricity over wood products that have been soaked in a chemical solution. This technique is hazardous and should only be performed by qualified specialists.
The fractal wood-burning art method is not the only deadly fad widespread on social media; experts warn that other challenges, such as the fire mirror challenge and the Sleepy Chicken craze, are also dangerous.
Furthermore, this is not the first death due to this technique; according to the American Association of Woodturners, up to 33 individuals have died while attempting this fractal burning process.
It is now past time to stop these deadly social media trends before they take more lives.
