According to the report, Velasquez opened fire on a vehicle carrying a man who is recently accused of molesting the former champion’s close relative.
He was formally charged in court on March 2 with one count of attempted first-degree murder. Furthermore, several other charges, including one count of shooting at a motor vehicle, three counts of assault with a firearm was also added.
He was also charged with two other counts, one count of willfully discharging a firearm from a vehicle. And one count of carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony.
The shooting happened Monday afternoon during an “11-mile, high-speed chase through crowded roads into San Jose”.
According to the statement, Velasquez fired from his Ford truck at the vehicle, striking his intended target’s 63-year-old male relative.
The victim who was shot was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, as per the San Jose Police Department.
Velasquez’s intended victim, Harry Goularte, 43, was facing felony charges for allegedly molesting a child.
Harry was, however, released on the condition that he remain in Morgan Hill home confinement. He is also ordered to stay 100 yards away from any child under the age of 14, and wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.
According to authorities, Harry was on his way to get the monitor when Velasquez attempted to shoot him in a truck chase.
