Colorado Avalanche lost one of their best second-line center Nazem Kadri after getting shoved into the end-line boards.
Colorado are on their way to the Stanley Cup with a series lead of 3-0. They defeated the Edmonton Oilers by 4-2 at Roger’s place on 4th June, 2022.
But Avalanche has to move forward without their top player Nazem Kadri. He was injured in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oilers.
Just 28 seconds after the McDavid scored a goal for the Oilers, Evander Kane boarded Nazem from behind. Nazem had to leave the ice but Avalanche compensated for this loss by securing the win against the Oilers.
JT Compher played in place of the injured player in the center and scored a goal in the third period leading Avalanche towards victory.
Nazem Kadri Injury
Nazem was pushed into the boards from behind by Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane. Kane said that he was just trying to filch the puck from Kadri by putting his stick over Kadri’s jersey number. The hit was reviewed and Kane was given five minutes penalty.
Kadri left the ice and after being helped off was taken to the locker room. He did not return for the rest of the game. There might be potential upper-body or wrist injuries because of the cross-checking.
Kadri’s absence is a huge loss for Colorado. He has scored 87 points in 71 of the games in the 2021-2022 season. In the playoffs of the series where he played 12 gameplays, he scored 14 points for the team.
Evander Kane Hit – Current Status
Kane could have been thrown out of the game if his actions seemed intentional or if his actions left skull injuries to Kadri. But according to the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL), Kane’s actions did not meet the suspension criteria.
According to Jared Bednar- coach of Avalanche, it is confirmed that he won’t be playing the rest of the series. Kane played one of the most dangerous hits in hockey.
Kadri is still under examination but the reports of the severity of his injury are still pending.
