Father Bob Maguire, a beloved larrikin priest, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 88, according to his family.
The maverick Catholic figure who referred to himself as the “patron of the unloved and unlovely” wasn’t hesitant to question the status quo and draw attention to himself in the process.
The Maguire family described Father Bob as a “dear and much loved” relative in a statement.

After losing sensation in his hands and fingers, followed by his legs, he was eventually given a diagnosis of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. His limbs were being given injections of a specialized blood product that was giving them life.
