Although Susan Barlow passed away more than 20 years ago, it seems that her influence on Coronation Street is stronger than ever.
Corrie star Susan Barlow was Adama Barlow’s mother and Peter’s identical twin sister along with being the child of Ken.
Unfortunately, in 2001, she lost her life at a young age in an automobile accident, and her role ended in the show.
Susan’s childhood was filled with drama, from her mother Valerie’s death to being sent to Scotland by her struggling father, Ken, and her infant baby.
What Happened To Susan Barlow In Coronation Street?
Susan was killed instantly when her car crashed into a tree while driving on M6, but her son, Adam, suffered only minor injuries. Additionally, the event happened while Barlow and Adam attempted to flee to Ireland.
In a similar vein, her ex-husband, Mike, whom she did not believe would make a suitable father for her son, was granted custody of him following her death.
That’s why she lied about the abortion and gave birth to her son, Adam, in May 1988. The only person who knew about her little secret was Peter. In 2000, Peter Barlow accidentally disclosed that Susan had a son by the name of Adam when arguing with his father.
Susan asked Ken to keep the truth from Mike when he visited her in Scotland. Ken’s agreement was disclosed to Dev Alahan by his wife, Deirdre, who subsequently informed Mike. Plus, he requested access to Adam when Susan came to visit Coronation Street.

Wendy is no longer an actor; she is instead a tour guide. Likewise, Suzy Paterson filled the position in between Wendy Jane Walker’s appearances on the program.
Finally, Susan’s role was temporarily filled by actress Joanna Foster in 2001 for a month. She had been acting for a while at that point, having been in shows like Blind Justice, The Bill, and Casualty.
Joanna continued acting in soap operas after Susan’s passing, spending two years as Ginny Davenport in Family Affairs. She has continued acting, singing, and music composition since that time.
How Did Susan Barlow Die In Corrie?
On November 27, 2017, Susan Barlow unexpectedly returned to Coronation Street as a key character.
She was found to have died in a car crash that was partly the fault of the vicar, Billy Mayhew, who hadn’t shown up on the cobbles until more than a decade after she had passed away.
After Billy was detained on suspicion of being involved in the crime, Todd, Billy’s boyfriend, hired a private investigator and eventually learned the truth.
In the following scene, it is made clear that Billy was horrified at learning who he had murdered in the collision.
For her funeral, Susan’s body was returned to Weatherfield, where she was laid to rest next to her mother, Valerie. Since Susan’s passing, Peter, Adam, Ken, and his other son, Daniel Osbourne, have periodically mentioned her.
