Kadri will be out for the rest of the series, according to Avalanche coach Jared Bednar.
NHL: What Happened To Nazem Kadri? Injury Update
Nazem Kadri was hit from behind by Edmonton’s Evander Kane in the first period of Game 3 of the Western Conference Final. Kane was given a five-minute major for boarding but was not sent out.
Kadri was assisted off the ice after being on the ice for several minutes near the end boards.
He left the game and did not return, according to NHL.nbcsports. That is a huge blow for Colorado since Kadri is one of their best all-around players following a stellar regular season.
In addition to losing one of their most important players, Colorado will be without a forward for virtually the entire game until Kadri returns.
Despite the fact that Kane was not dismissed, he may face additional league sanctions.
Referees Wes McCauley and Eric Furlatt spoke after the play to discuss the call, originally declaring it a major penalty before analyzing the play and finally affirming their verdict.
Kadri was attempting to keep the ball in the Oilers’ zone. Kane pushed Kadri against the boards with his stick over his jersey numbers.
“I was just around the backcheck. The puck went wide and dribbled into the corner. “I know he likes to do things backward,” Kane explained. “I was just trying to get a head start on him.”
“All I did was that. Unfortunately, he stumbled against the boards and wounded his hands. However, that was unfortunate, he stated according to The Times.
“The hit is the most deadly play in hockey,” according to Bednar. “It throws him in from behind, eight feet off the boards.” I’ll leave it there.”
When Is Nazem Kadri Playing Again?
Nazem Kadri will be playing again after he is recovered fully. However, it is announced that he will not be playing for the remainder of the series.
Bednar stated that the position of Kadri’s replacement will be filled “by committee” for the rest of the series.
“That’s how important he is to us.” “It may be one man one night and a different guy the next,” he explained. “Obviously, it’s a devastating loss. But we have no control over it.”
According to NHL rules, Kane may have received a match penalty if there was willful intent to harm on the play, or a game-misconduct penalty if the infraction resulted in an injury “to the face or head of an opponent.”
Kane’s conduct, according to the on-ice officials, did not meet either threshold.
If the event merits an extra penalty from the NHL Department of Player Safety, Kane’s previous transgression was a $5,000 fine for kneeing Los Angeles Kings player Sean Durzi.
He received a three-game suspension in February 2020 for elbowing Winnipeg Jets defenceman Neal Pionk. Kane’s 21-game suspension for breaking the NHL/NHLPA COVID-19 procedure in September would not be included in any penalty for an on-ice incident.
Colorado won 4-2 over the Oilers to grab a 3-0 series lead. Colorado advanced to 11-2 in the playoffs with the victory.
