Mary Louise Day was a teenage girl who vanished in 1981 from her home in Seaside, California.
The day was born on February 19, 1968, in Little Falls, New York, to Charlotte (Pressler) Day and Charles Day. Her two sisters, Kathy and Sherrie, considered her the oldest.
Day and her two sisters had a difficult childhood. They were constantly in and out of foster care because their mother couldn’t care for them when they were young.

48 Hours: What Happened To Mary Day?
Detectives believe a 13-year-old girl who went missing from her California home in 1981 was murdered, and a woman claiming to be her in Phoenix is an imposter.
Maureen Maher explained the detailed information regarding the investigation and the whole story in “48 Hours,” titled “What Ever Happened to Mary Day?”
Mary Day’s tale tormented two generations of homicide detectives in the Monterey area of California’s rocky central coast.
Since the mid-1990s, there had been tales that a little girl, barely 13 years old, had gone without a trace from her house near the enormous old Army post at Fort Ord.
There was, however, no record of anybody reporting her missing. For more than 20 years, detectives in the small garrison town of Seaside, California, had no access to the case.
The detectives began putting together Mary’s life. Detectives couldn’t find Mary for nearly 20 years.
There were no IDs, wages, school records, arrest records, or anything else. They were confident Mary had been murdered very swiftly.
More than two decades later, while authorities suspected Mary’s parents of her murder, a lady claiming to be the lost kid resurfaced, and DNA showed she was her mother’s daughter.
