Mark Monroe, portrayed by the “The Originals” actor Daniel Gillies is reported to have nailed his role in the show.
Sadly, Mark had already died before the start of the show. After his death, Mel moves to the remote Northern Californian town to overcome the sadness of her husband’s death and their struggles of being parents.
In the fragments of Mel’s memories, she and Mark failed to conceive many tries later. Mark decides to give up on their dream of becoming parents, to which Mel objects.
The conversation took place during the two’s drive home in a storm. In between, Mel suggests that the two take a break from their marriage since they want different things now.
Shocked by her decision, Mark briefly took off his eyes from the road only to get smashed by a coming truck.
The accident leaves the two badly injured, but Mark dies shortly after at the hospital with Mel by his side.
Mel then relocates to Virgin River, where she meets Jack Sheridan, while she often remembers her loving late husband.

Mark Monroe is mainly remembered by his wife, Melinda Monroe, but sadly, the two did not have any family.
A little is known about Mark and his family background since he lived before the show’s initial plot of Mel moving to the Virgin River and adjusting to the remote life.
However, as season three recalls, Mel used Mark’s sperm deposits to be pregnant again. She broke up with Jack for a brief time, and she returned to LA’s fertility clinic.
She and Mark had banked some of Mark’s sperm to use later down the line if they wished to try for another baby. Luckily, she is pregnant this time, much to her happiness.
