Jim Richards’ afternoon show ended on February 1, 2021, and he was reportedly part of a layoff of 210 staff at Bell Media outlets across Canada.
Jim Richards is a radio personality from Canada. He attended Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario, where he studied radio broadcasting.
He began his radio career in 1988 at CJTN in Trenton, Ontario, near Belleville, and went on to work at CIHI in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and CJCH in Halifax Nova Scotia.
In 1990, he was nominated for a medium-market morning show of the year at CFJB Rock 95 in Barrie, Ontario, north of Toronto, where he aired a popular morning show.
CFRB: What Happened To Jim Richards Newstalk 1010? Where Is He Today?
On March 1, 2021, Jim Richards returned to the airwaves as presenter of The Late Showgram with Jim Richards, a new 5-hour nationwide nighttime show produced by CFRB and broadcast on the Bell Media Radio IHeartRadio talk radio network.
CFRB Toronto, CKTB St. Catharines, CFAX Victoria, CJAD Montreal, CFRA Ottawa, CKFR Kelowna, CKLW Windsor, and CJBK London were among the first stations to broadcast the show.
In 1997, he joined CFRB, a news-talk radio station. He presented The Nightside, a late-night conversation show on CFRB. When Mark Elliot took over The Nightside in 2004, Richards went to an earlier shift, from 8 to 11 p.m. on weekday evenings.
With the departure of Michael Coren in late 2005, Richards’ shift was temporarily moved from 7 to 10 for a few weeks before Kelly Cutrara was named Coren’s replacement, and Richards was reassigned to the 8 to 11 slot.
He worked sporadic shifts on Toronto sports talk station The Fan from the early 1990s through 1996, including a Saturday morning show.
He was asked to modify his name to something “less ethnic” during his early days with The Fan, so he went with a modification of his middle name, changing to Jim Richards as his on-air moniker.
