The Continental Wrestling Association was founded by Jarrett in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1977. In 1989, Jarrett joined his business with World Class Championship Wrestling, which had its corporate office in Dallas, Texas. This resulted in the creation of the United States Wrestling Association.
Lawler purchased the company from Jarrett in 1997. He co-founded NWA:TNA in 2002 with his son Jeff Jarrett, marking his second foray into promotion. He sold Panda Energy International his majority share later that year.
