Jen Sakai, also known as Jennifer Sakai, is an art historian who specializes in early modern (roughly 15th-18th centuries) art and rose to prominence as a result of her work.
Jen was trained as a northern European art historian, and her current teaching and research interests are in early modern art in the context of colonialism and imperialism.
From an early age, she is curious about what happens to artistic form, content, style, and function when works of art cross chronological, cultural, political, ideological, or theological boundaries.
What Happened To Jen Sakai?
The Curator Jen Sakai was devastated after her husband, an officer, died when he was 35 years old.
Jennifer described her spouse, a UC Berkeley graduate, as generally a really smart guy with a hard work ethic. At the same time, he’s very humble.
Likewise, she said “I’m sure I’m no different than any other single parent out there,” referring to the difficulty of juggling children and work. It’s frantic. It’s startling. It’s difficult. You must deal with grief while also providing a safe environment for my daughter.
She also added that she doesn’t really see herself or her situation as any different than anybody else who suffers a tragic loss.
Sakai considers herself fortunate to have a strong support system of family and friends. Her mother relocated to the Castro Valley area to help.
