Jedine Carr was a young Jamaican footballer who was murdered by a gunman on Friday while she was on her way to football training.
The shooting death of national football player Jedine Carr, according to Olivia Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport, has left her inconsolable.
In 2018, Jedine flew to China with the Jamaican squad to take part in the Chinese Football Development Exchange Program. Her tragic death has left the whole nation in shock.
Who Was Jedine Carr? Her Age Explored
Carr represented St. Thomas in Under-15 football and was chosen for the Under-17 National Training squad. Jedine participated in the 2020 ISSA School Girls Competition as a member of the Yallahs High School team.
According to a press release from the JFF, she most recently competed against the Proven Girls Academy located in the ISSA Construction 2022 Reinas Cup.
Considering she was playing for the under-15 football team, she must have been around the age of 13 and 14. Carr was very talented and she was just getting to the height of her career.
However, she lost her life to gun violence early in her life which has left the whole nation devastated. Many protestors have come out in the streets asking the government to provide justice for young Jedine and bring better gun violence laws in the country.
Jedine was just one of the victims of gun violence that shook up the media, but many other gun violence victims do not get the same media attention and are brushed under the rug.
What Was Jedine Carr Cause Of Death?
Carr, who resided in the Heartsease section of Yallahs, & Andrew Mullings, who was a taxi driver who lived in the Newlands section of the area, were both killed. Two individuals, including Carr, were killed on Friday in the early afternoon when gunmen opened fire along the main route of Lloydsville in Yallahs, St. Thomas.
Around 4:45 p.m., Mullings was apparently operating his blue 2003 Toyota Corolla down the main street while Carr and two unidentified guys were seated in the back.
Authorities claim that the vehicle lost control after hearing explosions, colliding into a gray Toyota Corolla, a utility post, & ending up in a ravine.
When the two men exited the vehicle, there were powerful explosions once more, and they ran away from the site on foot. Carr was reportedly on her way to football practice when the incident occurred.
