What Happened To Jared Cannonier Arm? Injury And Recovery – Domestic Abuse Accusations

Jared Cannonier’s bout against Robert Whittaker in 2020 UFC 254 resulted in a devastating arm break, requiring him to take some time off to recuperate and regroup.

Jared Christopher “JC” Cannonier is an American professional mixed martial artist born on March 16, 1984, in Dallas, Texas.

He now competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Middleweight category (UFC).

Jared is currently ranked #3 in the UFC middleweight rankings as of June 14, 2021.

He is expected to face Derek Brunson in a three-round bout at UFC 271 on February 12.

Jared Cannonier Domestic Abuse Accusations

When it comes to UFC fighters, domestic abuse accusations are not new. However, Jared Cannonier has not been in the record of this allegation so far.

The jersey Derek Brunson wore at his UFC 271 media day appearance has caused quite a stir in the MMA world. He wore a shirt with the slogan “I beat up domestic abusers” on the front.

Brunson, set to fight Jared, clarified that his shirt was not a dig at any of his opponents, past or present, or any UFC fighter in particular.

When it comes to domestic abuse, the UFC has never had a clear stance, according to Bloody Elbow. Some boxers have been removed from the promotion due to domestic violence histories (such as Will Chope).

They’ve also cut boxers suspected but not convicted of crimes (like Luis Pena, Michael Graves, and Thiago Silva (who was then resigned).

However, the organization has maintained several athletes on its roster, including Michael Johnson, Mike Perry, and former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, accused of domestic abuse.

The UFC has also signed a handful of athletes with prior domestic violence convictions. Anthony Johnson, a former UFC title contender, and Greg Hardy, a current heavyweight, fall within this group.

Jared Cannonier Broken Arm Injury And Recovery Update

Jared Cannonier lost UFC 254 fight against Robert Whittaker in October 2020. He later disclosed he suffered from a broken arm while resisting Whittaker’s head kick in the first round on an Instagram post.

Unfortunately, that was his first defeat as a middleweight champion, although he managed to sustain the fight till the third round.

Cannonier even tore his pectoral muscle earlier that year, just as reports of a fight with Darren Till began to circulate.

For Cannonier, the year 2020 was a major stumbling hurdle, and he had to deal with two catastrophic injuries on top of the COVID-19 epidemic that turned the globe upside down.

The 37 years old went through two surgeries, and he was on hiatus for six months to let his arm recover and prepare himself physically and mentally.

His major comeback in August 2021 resulted in fruition when he defeated Kelvin Gastelum unanimously.
