Yankees: What Happened To Gerrit Cole?

Gerrit Cole of the Yankees recorded the shortest start of his big-league career against the Tigers in another game, as his early-season difficulties continued.

On Tuesday night against the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees ace Cole equaled his career-high in walks with his shortest start of the season.

Cole was removed with two outs in the second inning after walking five of the 11 batters he faced and surrendering two runs (both earned) on 68 pitches.

In the first inning, Cole, 31 years old, faced four batters, striking out three and walking the other.

Cole had only walked five hitters before, against the Tampa Bay Rays on June 18, 2018. However, he pitched seven innings in a win in that game, with 64 percent of his pitches going for strikes.

Gerrit Cole Injury Update

Gerrit Cole could not find his proper form after recovering from his elbow injury.

He was injured while playing for the Pirates. Cole has been placed on the 60-day disabled list by the Pirates due to right elbow posterior irritation, according to the team.

This is yet another setback for Cole, who was already on the disabled list in August due to elbow inflammation and missed time in June due to a triceps issue.

On Monday, Cole made his first start since returning from an elbow inflammation issue against Philadelphia. He only lasted two innings in a 6-2 loss, allowing four hits, four walks, and five runs.
