Davis Bertans is a Latvian-born professional basketball player who currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA. He is known as the “Latvian Laser” and represents the Latvian national team. He was chosen by the Indiana Pacers as the 42nd overall choice in the 2011 NBA Draft.
Bertans was transferred from the San Antonio Spurs to the Washington Wizards as part of a three-team transaction in July 2019 that also featured the Brooklyn Nets. He had a great start with the Wizards, scoring 23 points and hitting six three-pointers in his debut game against the Charlotte Hornets.
For private reasons, Bertans decided not to participate in the NBA’s return to Orlando in June 2020. He wanted to be cautious as he reached free agency because he had previously experienced ACL issues. His decision was supported by the Wizards, who were ousted from the playoffs as was expected.
Bertans and the Wizards reached a five-year, $80 million contract in November 2020. In a game against the Denver Nuggets in February 2021, he scored a career-high 35 points while making nine three-pointers. He was later traded to the Dallas Mavericks in February 2022 as part of a deal that also included Kristaps Porziis.
