To help Brenna and lend her a voice when she needs it the most, the army fans of hers have created a petition saying, “People with disabilities face enough barriers, without this kind of ridiculous bureaucracy.”
The petition was started five days ago and has already been signed by 1762 people.
Brenna’s competition class was officially canceled due to a lack of participants. Even though she was told she could compete against more minor disabled athletes at her own risk, they later changed their minds saying the rules don’t allow that.
How Did Brenna Huckaby Lose Her Leg? What Was The Injury?
Brenna Huckaby lost her right leg due to cancer in November of 2010.
The young, nationally ranked gymnast was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a kind of bone cancer, at the age of 14. Had she not been forced to battle cancer which eventually resulted in the amputation of her leg, she might have received a college scholarship.
What was just a chronic knee discomfort, which both her parents and she thought was a sports injury, ended up being bone cancer? After a visit to the doctor, she started chemotherapy.
When the treatment caused the tumor to grow, amputation was reasonable. Even after getting her prosthesis, she tried to return to gymnastics, but when she couldn’t perform at nearly the same level, her heart wasn’t in it.
Although she tried many sports after gymnastics, she never felt motivated. One day in January of 2012, she was on a ski trip to Utah with MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital; she finally found her new passion after strapping on a snowboard.
What Is Brenna Huckaby Age? Who Are Her Parents?
Born in 1996, Brenna Huckaby is currently 25 years of age. She was born to parents Jeffry Huckaby and Kristie Huckaby in Louisiana.
Her parents have always been very supportive of her. They took her to the hospital after her knee discomfort went on for too long. Her mom took her to chemotherapy sessions, though it didn’t do much good.
Moreover, she has become a mom to a two-year-old daughter, something she did not anticipate as her eggs had been destroyed by chemotherapy.
When she visited a fertility specialist, the doctor told her that her chances of having a biological child were slim to none. However, now she shares daughter Lilah with her snowboarder husband, Tristan Clegg.
