What happened to Al Michaels on ‘Sunday Night Football’? He’s a familiar face on NFL broadcasts, but he wasn’t in the booth for the Buccaneers-Saints game. Let’s learn more about the matter.
AI Michaels is an American sportscaster on television. After nearly three decades at NBC Sports (1976-2006), he now works for ABC Sports.
The Professional sportscaster is also the first to cover all four major sports leagues in the United States: the NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball.
Many NFL fans will recognize him as the play-by-play announcer for ABC’s ‘Monday Night Football’ and NBC’s ‘Sunday Night Football.’
Moreover, Michaels is also recognized for historic calls in other sports, including the earthquake-interrupted Game 3 of the World Series in 1089 and the Miracle on Ice at the 1980 Winter Olympics.

What Happened To Al Michaels On Sunday Night Football?
NFL fans are creatures of habit, whether we like it or not, particularly on Sundays. As a result, fans are quick to notice when something is changed or out of the norm. On Sunday Night Football, it was the case with AI Michaels.
Fans were astonished to hear Cris Collinsworth in the booth with Mike Tirico rather than Michaels when the game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints began on Sunday night.
Fans were left wondering what had happened to Michaels, and why he wasn’t in the booth for a high-profile NFC South clash featuring Tom Brady.
After 14 weeks and the playoffs coming, he looks to be taking a week off; he deserves it.
Al Michaels Leaving SNF Rumors: Where Is He Tonight?
There have been speculations that Michaels may leave Sunday Night Football after this season, but nothing has been confirmed. For the veteran caller, the Bucs-Saints games were merely a night off. As a result, he’ll be back very soon.
If you’re worried about AI Michaels, be assured that the iconic announcer is in no way ill or sick. Instead, he appears to be taking a week off after 14 weeks and the playoffs looming; he deserves it.
These national broadcasters have rigorous schedules, which are made much more difficult by the extra week in the regular season.
What’s more fascinating is that NBC saw Michelle Tafoya return to the sidelines this offseason, which was something that fans were hoping for.
