What exactly is the phantom time hypothesis? Here are the facts you need to know

What if I told you that we only live in the city? Believe me, the illusion of past centuries that we are in 1820 and not 2018 marks the time to fill in missing years cover up? This is the claim of the proponents of the phantom time hypothesis.

As outlandish as that sounds, that’s exactly what turned a German publisher into a historian, and its followers tried to sell to the world through their conspiracy theory, which is said to have been perpetuated by three main actors. It states that the earth has existed for 297 years, with fake stories that never happened. It is worth learning how this could have happened. Find out more…

What produced the phantom time hypothesis?

The phantom time hypothesis was first born by Heribert Illig, a German historian born in Bavaria in 1947. Later, others such as Dr. Hans Ultrich Niemitz the claims and theories of Heribert Illig.

Heribert Illig was a strong historian editor and an editor who had actively revised and edited notable works for the likes of Egon Friedell. Some of his prehistoric documentation and revisions of chronological accounts had been dismissed as highly controversial and largely flawed. Over the years, he became well known in the German media for his work, as his work had prompted critical thinking from other historians and a number of open discussions. From 2013 to 2017 he published the Phantom Time Hypothesis / Theory.

During one of his researches, he came up with a plausible theory he then wrote on what he called “the fabricated history of mankind”. The most notable smoking gun were certain documents he said were forged by the Roman Catholic Church in the Middle Ages (between the 5th and 15th centuries), hundreds of years before the originals ever existed. Imagine!

This prompted Mr. Illig and his collaborators to further investigate other discrepancies such as the structure of Constantinople, the theory of evolution and the meaning of the term purgatory, etc.

Components of the Phantom Time Hypothesis

The key components of the phantom time hypothesis, as asserted by Heribert Illig, there were conspirators who came together to change the timing and makeup events that did not exist in human life, and by around 297 years, who reached middle age, to complement and give it existence.

According to the theory, the men allegedly fabricated the error and the contents of the Phantom Time hypothesis were Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne, Pope Sylvester II, Holy Roman Emperor Otto III. and the Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII. They are said to have been accomplices in falsifying the actual dating and time of existence, and their reason for doing so, according to Illig and his associates, was to place them in the special year AD 1000 to complete the story to change and alter to legitimize Emperor Otto’s claim to the Holy Roman Empire.

They were able to carry out this conspiracy by interfering with the Julian calendar and the Gregorian calendar (the calendar we use today). This action made the period of Otto’s reign appear as if it occurred in AD 2000 as it sounded more appealing and important than that of AD 996.

Illig’s proof of the hypothesis

Illig was able to identify three main areas supporting his claim of perceived conspiracy, and the areas as indicated by him in his writing:

  • The lack of artifacts and archaeological material supporting the dates of AD 614 to 911
  • The wrong math calculations are showing errors between the two calendar types – Julian and Georgian and the timeout at about 10 days and 11 minutes difference in the two calendar types – instead of 13 days.
  • Roman architectural designs constructed in western Europe in the 10th century indicated that they were far more advanced than when they were said to have been built.

reactions and criticism

The phantom time hypothesis is widely criticized as circumstantial and misguided knowledge. If we want to question time and assume that the events mentioned in history do not exist, then we question the recorded solar eclipses, the well-known Holy War of the Islamic nations, and the archaeological fossils that tell the events of that time.
