What Exactly Happened To Ronald Greene? Cause Of Death Explained

Greene was arrested in May of 2019 after a high-speed chase with officers from LSP’s Troop F after he allegedly refused to stop.

He died in a crash during a high-speed chase in northeast Louisiana, according to state police.

Greene was beaten, dragged, and shocked by troopers after the crash until he became unresponsive and died.

The cause of Greene’s death is unknown. He was beaten, bruised, and had two stun-gun prongs in his back, according to the medical report.

Greene was killed in a collision with a tree, according to the troopers’ original account, but it “does not add up,” the emergency department physician wrote.

Greene’s family requested an autopsy, which revealed severe head injuries and multiple facial wounds.

Why Was Ronald Greene Pulled Over By State Trooper Chris Hollingsworth?

Master Trooper Chris Hollingsworth came into a secret room deep within state police headquarters, swore an oath, and told investigators about the night.

He held down Black driver Ronald Greene and struck him in the head with a flashlight many times.

Instead, during a two-hour questioning, Hollingsworth portrayed himself as the victim of the violent arrest, claiming that he was afraid for his life even as graphic footage of white troopers rushing Greene’s car following a high-speed chase played over and again.

Master Trooper Chris Hollingsworth is injured in a single-vehicle car accident hours after learning that the Louisiana State Police intend to fire him for his role in Greene’s arrest. He dies the next day.

Hollingsworth’s own vehicle collided on Interstate 20 in Monroe, according to the Associated Press.

Ronald Greene Case And Trial Verdict: Was It A Cover Up?

Louisiana State Police investigators say commanders dismissed their concerns when they pressed to charge officers in the fatal 2019 arrest of Ronald Greene within days.

In May 2020, Greene’s family filed a federal wrongful death action against the state police, which is still unresolved in July 2021.

In September 2020, the family released graphic photographs of Greene’s injuries, as well as images of Greene’s car, which showed minor damage.

An administrative investigation was not opened by state police until August 2020.

Several legislators expressed displeasure with state police leaders, claiming that their deceptive and circuitous responses were weakening public trust in the embattled agency.

Albert Paxton, the primary detective in Greene’s death, told lawmakers that the officer in charge of the site of Greene’s death should be charged with a “cover-up” for denying the existence of his own body camera evidence.

The hearing turned tense at times as legislators expressed their disbelief and outrage at Reeves’ denials and failure to criticize the white troopers who were caught on body camera footage hitting, stunning, and dragging Greene during his tragic arrest on a lonely crossroads in northeast Louisiana.
