What Exactly Happened To Michael Vaughan, The Missing Idaho Child? Almost A Year But No Clues

Michael Joseph Vaughan went missing near his house in Fruitland on the evening of July 27, 2021. The family is still in hope even though the Fruitland Police Department has failed to find Michael for almost a year now.

The 5 years old young child Michael, whose nickname is “Monkey,” was last seen on July 27 near his residence in Fruitland, Idaho. Idaho police have left no stone uncovered since his abduction.

Drone operations of Vaughan from the air were undertaken, according to a police update in 2021. In the weeks-long search, agencies deployed scent-tracking dogs, drones, helicopters, a dive team, and paragliders.

More than a dozen law enforcement organizations, including the FBI, collaborated to search 3,000 acres of property in rural western Idaho, 29 miles of riverbank, drain canals, and hundreds of security camera files, according to police.

Update On Missing Idaho Child Michael Vaughan

On May 20, 2022, the Fruitland Police Department (FPD) issued an update on the investigation into Michael Vaughan’s disappearance.

According to the FPD, approximately 850 leads are gathered regarding Michael’s disappearance, and the reward for Michael’s safe return has increased to $52,860.

The FPD said it received about 850 leads on Michael’s disappearance, but virtually all of them were cleared. The FBI and the Idaho State Police are collaborating on the investigation.

A proposed law, inspired by the case of the missing Fruitland kid, would establish an Endangered Missing Person Alert (EMPA) to warn individuals in Idaho and neighboring states of a missing person. The bill has cleared both the Idaho House and Senate and is now on its way to Gov. Brad Little’s desk for signature.

Senate Bill 1378 would establish a centralized communication system for other warnings, but AMBER Alerts would continue to function independently.

An AMBER Alert was never issued for Michael, who went missing from his home in Fruitland almost a year ago, prompting numerous concerns and condemnation from the community, including Michael’s parents.

If the measure is enacted into law, Fruitland Police said it will give a much-needed tool moving forward for all Idaho Law Enforcement. According to FPD, mass exposure in these sorts of situations will increase the likelihood of a successful recovery.
