Mo Farah, in full Sir Mohamed Muktar Jama Farah, (born March 23, 1983, Mogadishu, Somalia), Somalian-born British distance runner who won gold medals in both the 5,000-metre and 10,000-metre races at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
Farah is best known for his success at 5,000- and 10,000-meter events. However, he just ran a 3:28.81 1,500-meter, which is one of the fastest times ever for that distance. Based on all sorts of “rules of thumbs,” this means he should be able to run close to 1:45 for 800-meters—or perhaps faster. People who can go that fast for 800-meters can usually break 47 seconds for 400-meters.
On 29 November 2019, Farah announced via his YouTube channel, his plan to return to the track to defend his 10,000m Olympic title at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.
Sir Mo Farah says he’d like to give back to his sport and that the Paris Olympics in 2024 is ‘too far down the line’.
The multiple Olympic, world, and European champions missed out on the Tokyo Olympics this year after failing to make the 10,000m Olympic qualifying mark at the British Athletics Championships. He then fractured his foot, which put paid to the rest of his summer race season.
