The attorney who oversaw the investigation into the Clintons’ Whitewater real estate holdings, Kenneth Starr, finally broadened his scope to encompass Monica Lewinsky and Clinton’s liaison with the intern at the White House. For the 2012 American Experience biography of Bill Clinton, filmmaker Barak Goodman sat down with Starr for a candid interview.
In it, Starr discusses his role as Independent Counsel, the numerous difficult choices he had to make while looking into the president, and his opinion on why the investigation’s events played out the way they did. The majority of this material was cut from the finished movie.
“Over four decades I have known Ken as ‘Judge Starr,’ ‘Dean Starr,’ ‘President Starr,’ ‘Uncle Ken,’ but most importantly ‘dear friend,’ to me, my family, our firm, our clients, American justice, and world justice,” Mark Lanier, founder and CEO of the Lanier Law Firm said in a statement. “The world has lost a super Starr, and the world is rightly in mourning.”
In 2020, Starr joined Trump’s defense team for his Senate impeachment trial.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice Mendell Starr, his three children, and nine grandchildren
