Some people claiming that Hat Flick TikTok is a racist trend doesn’t sound much convincing.
Not a day passes by without a trend going viral on TikTok. We have seen from fun to dangerous trends and sometimes even trends without any logic. Talking as of now, there is a popular Hat Flick thing going viral on the app which is basically flipping the brim of your hat.
However, it is not that simple as it sounds. Well, flicking the hat is simple but the logic behind it doesn’t look a simple one. Some people have even claimed it a racist thing to do. Find out more about it below…
Hat Flick Meaning Explained
The most popular and common meaning of flipping the brim of your hat appears to be greeting someone with respect.
But, that doesn’t seem to be the case on TikTok at all. One of the main meanings seems to be cool, like the cowboy thing. Cowboys from the past used to wear big hats and used to flick them when they met someone as a sign of greeting. So, that might be one meaning as well.
However, two other claims are being made by the users on TikTok about its meaning. Some people say it is a racist thing; whereas, other people have linked it with a desire to have sex with sheep or goats.
TikTok: How Is Flicking A Hat Racist?
Talking generally on TikTok, the Hat Flick trend doesn’t seem to be racist at all.
The Urban dictionary has also described the Hat Flick as a gesture to greet someone. But, that’s the only case. The dictionary has mentioned Hat Flick being a racist gesture as well. It describes the person who flicks his hat as indicating his offensive racist message to someone.
However, that doesn’t seem to be the case on TikTok as people are fairly enjoying making videos with hats.
Hat Flick Gesture Indicates Desire To Have Sex With Animals?
This is a rather uncommon and unusual explanation but there have been talks of it too.
A video can be found on Reddit where a man explains this. He says as a child, his grandfather used to sell sheep in the countryside. One day a person bought a sheep and continuously flicked his hat several times towards his grandfather. On asking the meaning after being confused, his grandfather told him that the buyer was indicating to have sex with the sheep and was inviting him to join.
We do not know how much truth there is in this explanation but simple explanations do not seem to exactly fit the TikTok trends.
