Zara Mullooly is a British Paralympic swimmer who competes in International level freestyle events. She is a record holder in 50m, 100m, 200m, and 400m freestyle.
She began swimming lessons at the age of three and joined Woking Swimming Club when she was eight years old.
When Zara was nine years old, she began to compete but got disqualified.
Then her coach suggested applying in a swimming classification for disabled swimmers, and in June 2013, she was officially classified as an S10 swimmer.
The classification refers to athletes with the least physical impairment. Later, she was contacted by the ASA Disability Talent Officer, which then led her to join the England Talent Program.
What Disability Does Zara Mollooly Have?
Well, Zara Mullooly was diagnosed with hemiplegia, which is a form of cerebral palsy.
Hemiplegia or unilateral paresis is a weakness of one entire side of the body. It is complete paralysis of half of the body.
It can be caused by different medical conditions, including congenital causes, trauma, tumors, or stroke.
According to its types, different bodily functions can be affected. Some effects might be partial paralysis of a limb on the affected side.
Other impairments, though, can be at first seem completely non-related to the limb weakness.
But in fact, a direct result of damage to the affected side of the brain.
