Yvie Oddly is an American drag queen performer and rapper who has recently been diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Type 3.
Yvie is a recording artist from Denver, Colorado, who shot to fame in 2019 after taking home the title of RuPaul’s Drag Race’s season eleven champion.
She subsequently made a comeback to participate in the all-winners seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2022. Oddly, she has been touring with Werq the World drag shows since 2019.
What Is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Type 3 Condition That Yvie Oddly Has?
The current RuPaul’s Drag Race champion openly admitted to having HEDS, or hypermobility Ehlers danlos syndrome, a rare tissue illness in which the body doesn’t produce enough collagen, a protein that supports joint function.
It can occasionally limit her ability to perform, as it did when she hurt her ankle during a dance challenge on the program. It also causes chronic discomfort and makes it simpler for joints to dislocate.
She has discovered a welcoming network of people with “hEDS” & other invisible illnesses thanks to her enhanced status. They refer to themselves as “zebras” since they have more uncommon diseases than doctors would have thought.
The disease is believed to be an inherited family disorder but it can also be caused by different genetic mutations. Yvie has always wondered what side of the family she got it from and she never got answers to it. However, her mother is very flexible from birth.
How Does Yvie Oddly Live With The Disease?
Yvie explained that she has always been in some kind of pain living with this disease. Even when she was young, she would go to school and come back in pain enough for her to not be able to function.
There is no treatment for her disease. However, there are ways to minimize it and Yvie has followed everything she can to live with the disease throughout her life.
She is regularly taking glucosamine supplements to strengthen her joints. She also has been attending physical therapies for her disease and the doctor has advised her to stay inactive as possible.
Considering how active Yvie is, the disease has made it harder for her to cope. She always wanted to become a gymnast but due to her rare condition, she could not pursue her gymnastic career.
Is There Any Cure For Yvie Oddly Disease?
There are no cures for Yvie’s disease. However, there are ways in which she can minimize the pain coming from her disease. To minimize the pain she takes an Epsom salt bath almost daily.
She also ices her joints and heats them afterward. She claimed that being Icy hot is her best friend. In the interview, she gave with Out Magazine she claims that she requires a lot of rest.
Oddly cannot be as active as she wants to. So she mainly focuses on projects where she does not have to move around too much and can do it sitting or laying down. She has grown to live with her condition today and also has found different people who suffer from similar symptoms.
