George Alan O’Dowd, known professionally as Boy George, is an English singer, songwriter, DJ, fashion designer, mixed media artist, photographer, and record producer. He is the lead singer of the pop band Culture Club.

George is 58. He was raised in south London, one of five children to a father and mother of Irish descent, and despite living in America for a while, his accent remains the scrappy sound of the place he is from.
When George was with Culture Club, much was made of his androgynous appearance, and there was speculation about his sexuality. When asked by Joan Rivers in an interview on her show in 1983, “Do you prefer men or women?”, George replied, “Oh both.”
In 1985, when asked by Barbara Walters about his sexual orientation, George said he was bisexual and had various girlfriends and boyfriends, in the past. He gave a famous, oft-quoted response to an interviewer that he preferred “a nice cup of tea” to sex.
