Albuquerque Police Department investigators are looking into a shooting at West Mesa High School that left one person critically injured on Friday, February 25, 2022.
The school is currently on lockdown immediately after the shooting at West Mesa High School in the southwestern US state of New Mexico.

According to an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman, a shooting near West Mesa High School left one person injured.
Officers from the department are establishing a perimeter in the area according to Gilbert Gallegos.
He didn’t have any other information about the incident but assured that more would be forthcoming soon.
As officers worked the crime scene, emotional students consoled one another outside the area cordoned off by yellow police tape.
“We had a gunshot at West Mesa High School,” Albuquerque Public Schools spokesperson Monica Armenta stated, later clarifying that while the shooting did not take place on campus, it was “quite close.”
After the shooting, school administrators established a shelter, but Armenta said the shelter is set to be lifted and parents will be allowed to pick up their children soon.
Parents should travel west from Fortuna and exit east on Glenrio, she advised. Parents picking up their children should be patient, according to Armenta, who noted that the release could take some time.
Due to APD’s active and ongoing investigation, students who parked in the 64th Street parking lot west of the school will also need to be picked up.
