Wednesday Addams’s Family Evidently Has A Lot Of Witches, But Is She Really One?

Wednesday Addams is not a witch but has supernatural abilities of psychic vision. Wednesday hails from a family background of witches.

“Wednesday” is the most recent “The Addams Family” franchise live-action Netflix adaptation. As the series’ director, Tim Burton wanted to ensure that viewers wouldn’t confuse his new project for a remake or a reboot but rather for a spinoff that centers on Wednesday’s life as she enters adulthood.

Based on Charles Addams’ original characters, the prominent members of the Addams Family are well-known and beloved. However, this version of Wednesday is much older than when we last saw her, as portrayed by Christina Ricci.

Since Wednesday has reached high school age, she inevitably meets new people, both friends and foes.

Due to several explosions, Wednesday had to transfer between schools before enrolling in the Nevermore Academy. Additionally, she is immediately labeled as an “outcast” at Nevermore. Is Wednesday Addams, however, a witch?

Is Wednesday Addams a Witch? She has Many Witches in Her Family History

Wednesday Addams is not a witch, but her psychic vision makes her a supernatural human.

Like the Sanderson Sisters, Wednesday may not be able to make potions or fly on broomsticks, but she unquestionably possesses darkness in her blood.

Her mother, Morticia Addams, was portrayed as a witch by her creator, cartoonist Charles Addams. In reality, Morticia’s and Gomez’s families can be traced back to the “witchcraft” of Salem, Massachusetts, in season one, Episode 5 of the original 1960s TV show “The Addams Family.”

Besides that, in Episode 9, we witness Morticia’s “smoke,” in which smoke issues from her body, which is pretty witchy stuff.

Since Morticia is a well-known former cast member of Nevermore, we can see how Wednesday is similar to or different from her mother. So Wednesday could come into her witchiness.

In the 1991 picture, Wednesday also develops an admiration for her ancestor, Great Aunt Calpurnia Addams, who was burned as a witch in 1706.

And, of course, there is Grandmama, one of the several Addams family supporting figures. Depending on the iteration, Grandmama is sometimes shown as Morticia’s mother and other times as Gomez’s mother.

She even works in the kitchen with Granny Fump to create potions. Thus, Wednesday carries a trace of the “witch” gene.

Wednesday Addams Family Tree

The spooky Addams Family, created by cartoonist Charles Addams, originally appeared on television in the 1964 series. Since then, the family has appeared in various films and TV shows, becoming a Halloween fixture.

The Addams family’s cast has evolved since the comic strip version of the nameless family initially appeared. However, Gomez and Morticia Addams and their children Wednesday and Pugsley are the main characters in every adaptation, starting with the well-known 1964 television series.

The Addams family is significant, and each member is fascinating and distinctive. There are nine unique characters to mention;  let’s get to know them through Family Tree.

Gomez Addams

The patriarch of the Addams family, Gomez, may have a slightly menacing aspect, but he is a cheery man who radiates excitement and wears a wide smile. He also emits a great sense of optimism and seems carefree, maybe due to his enormous wealth.

Gomez seems lucky that his wealth is still intact, given that his investing ideas lack the justification and methods many investors employ. In any case, Gomez is, without a doubt, the family’s liveliest member.

Morticia Addams

The family’s matriarch, Morticia, appears to be the family’s mastermind and the glue that binds them. What makes this character so distinctive is that she maintains a caring and loving attitude while having a chilly and scary exterior that occasionally even resembles that of a ghost.

Morticia is exceedingly trustworthy and cool-headed, which more than makes up for all the bizarre things her family does. And for the most part, she is recognized as having some of the finest parents in the film.

Pugsley Addams

Pugsley Addams is the son of Gomez and Morticia, and depending on the version of the character, he is either Wednesday’s older or younger brother.

His characteristics also vary from one episode to the next; at times, he is depicted as an evil deviant youngster, executing many horrific deeds; at other times, he is much more lighthearted while still being creative. His distinctive striped T-shirt stays the same, though.

Wednesday Addams

Today, Wednesday from the Addams Family is more well-known than ever. She is undoubtedly one of the most beloved characters among fans, and she has an even larger fan base now that Jenna Ortega is playing her in Tim Burton’s television series.

Wednesday, Gomez and Morticia’s daughter, is driven by her cruel ideals, sarcasm, and deadpan manner.

Uncle Fester

Uncle Fester is well-known because of his bald head, protruding eyes, and oversized black coat with large collars.

The character is essential to the family due to his quirky, gruesome, and strange actions, including keeping falcons on the roof and fishing with dynamite, which adds to the family’s ominous aura while also puzzling the audience.

Grandmama

Since it’s not entirely clear if Grandmama is Gomez’s or Morticia’s mother, her relationship with the Addams Family is up for question despite her frequent appearances.

She is a witch who enjoys inventing various potions and using spells. She is also known to dabble in casual knife throwing and fortune reading, as if that weren’t enough.

Cousin Itt

Cousin Itt is a cousin of Gomez Addam. However, it needs to be clarified how closely related the two are. He stands short and has long hair that reaches from the top of his head to the soles of his feet.

He is renowned for speaking in an annoying, unintelligible babbling that only his family members appear to be able to understand. And Itt is also the parent of a child named What.

Lurch

Another non-family member important to the legend of his supernatural family is the gaunt, tall, ghoulish-looking Lurch.

He helps out around the house, and although he occasionally fails to complete chores because of his enormous size and power, the Addamses still find him quite a find. Lurch excels at making the kids laugh and waxing Uncle Fester’s head, among other things.

Thing

The character’s human hand was the only thing that could have saved the viewers from the creature’s terrifying appearance in the original version of Thing.

But in subsequent episodes, Thing is merely a ghostly hand that, like Lurch, assists the family in and around the house. Some of the Things’ favorite tasks include getting the mail, lighting cigars, and changing the TV station.
