In fact, this is the very first time the singer performed his father’s song on April 9, 2022, breaking the vow he made of not singing the song.

In an Instagram thread with the video, he wrote “As a human, and as an artist, I felt compelled to respond in the most significant way I could,”.
The singer also uploaded a video of the candlelit live rendition of the 1971 iconic song. It was written by his dad and his stepmother Yoko Ono.
He sat on a stool accompanied by a single acoustic guitarist Nuno Bettencourt in the candlelit live rendition version of the song to support Ukraine.
He made this effort to raise money for the ongoing tragedy and humanitarian crisis happening in Ukraine following the Russian invasion.
The 59-year-old singer also cleared why he broke his previous vow that he would only sing the song if it was “the End of the World”.
He explained that the song also strongly reflects the collective desire of everyone to want nothing but peace, love, and togetherness.
So, he felt it is the right time amidst the ongoing unimaginable tragedy regardless of vowing not to sing the song after all these years.
He concluded the thread with a plea to leaders and everyone who believes in the sentiment to do something for the millions of people.
