Since 2019, Ronald Dion DeSantis, an American politician, and former military commander, has been Florida’s 46th governor.

He was born on September 14, 1978. DeSantis served as Florida’s 6th congressional district’s Republican representative in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2018.

DeSantis was chosen to serve in Congress for the first time in 2012 and was returned in 2014 and 2016. He founded the Freedom Caucus during his time in office and supported President Donald Trump.

In 2016, he made a short run for the U.S. Senate but withdrew after Marco Rubio, the incumbent, announced his candidacy.

DeSantis won the Republican primary for governor in 2018 and lost to Andrew Gillum, the mayor of Tallahassee, by a mere 0.4% in the general election.
