Kareem Atkins was a Texas constable deputy who was fatally shot and killed. Here is more on the incident.
The incident is said to have taken place while he along with the other two deputies were working an extra job in a nightclub in Houston. The other two colleagues were also shot and are currently in the hospital seeking treatment.
Was Deputy Kareem Atkins Killed?
Kareem Atkins who was killed in an ambush was a Harris County Constable Deputy. According to police, he and other two colleagues named Juqiam Barthen and Darryl Garrett was working in a nightclub.
During the press conference, Houston Police Executive Assistant Chief James Jones said that they went outside the bar when they noticed a disturbance that may have been “robbery”.
Two of the deputies entered the parking lot and began arresting the possible suspect when a second suspect suddenly appeared and opened fire at them with an AR-15 assault rifle.
Sadly, Kareem Atkins lost his life because of the injuries whereas Darell was taken to hospital and had to underwent surgery. In addition, another deputy who later rushed to help them after hearing a gunshot was also shot and is in the hospital.
Houston Police Officer Kareem Atkins Dead in Shooting
Police officer Kareem Atkins has died in a shooting in Houston. According to the news sources, he had recently returned to work after paternity leave.
He had been in Precinct 4 since January 2019. He left behind his wife and 2 months old kid.
The three of the deputies have been described as true law enforcement heroes. They were working for the safety of the community who were cowardly ambushed.
The incident took place around 2.15 a.m. when they went outside the bar to address a disturbance. The shooters are in the run and have not been caught yet.
The investigators said that the suspect may be a person in his 20s and hope to take him in custody sooner.

Kareem Atkins was at the age of 30 when he died. The other two deputies, Juqiam is 26 years old and Darryl is 38.
Kareem has tragically passed away and left behind a few-month-old infant and a new mother.
