Vinod Gupta is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of infoGROUP (previously known as infoUSA). Mr. Gupta was the company’s CEO from its inception in 1972 to September 1997, and then again from August 1998 to August 2008. It grew from a one-man business to a worldwide employment of over 5,000 with sales of $750 million after borrowing $100 from a bank to get started.
During this time, he purchased over 45 businesses. In July 2010, InfoGroup was sold for $680 million. Vinod Gupta founded DatabaseUSA.com in 2010. Vinod Gupta founded LocateAMERICA.com in 2012. In Bill Clinton’s book Giving, he mentions how the business “has made a deliberate effort to employ individuals on welfare, as well as those who are handicapped or who have to support themselves after getting out of dangerous home circumstances.” President Bill Clinton appointed him to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. as a Trustee. Mr. Gupta was also nominated and approved as the United States Consul General in Bermuda, as well as the United States Ambassador to Fiji, by the President.
