Vince Hill children: Meet his only son Athol Hill

In the English traditional pop music genre, Vincent Hill became well-known for his recording of the Rodgers and Hammerstein song Edelweiss.

On April 16, 1934, Vincent Hill was born in Coventry’s Holbrooks. When he was seventeen years old, he made his debut as a professional singer at The Prospect in Margate, Kent.

After working as a baker, truck driver, and coal miner, he nevertheless made the decision to devote his entire time to music. His career began when he saw an ad for a vocalist in the “Melody Maker” magazine, which was for The Band of the Royal Corps of Signals. He made the trip to the band’s camp in Catterick Camp, Yorkshire, attended the audition, and was hired.
