Historical dramas are designed to tell stories from the past in the form of television series or movies. So many movie producers got involved and created some interesting pieces. Marie Antoinette is one such drama from 1938.
Michael Hirst, a renowned screenwriter, and producer of English origin has his own production company called Pavilion Entertainment. With this fine asset, Hirst produced interesting biographical dramas such as 1998’s Elizabeth and 2007 ‘s Elizabeth the Golden Age. He is also credited for the 2007 historical drama, The Tudors and The Vikings, a television series that premiered in 2013.
Vikings was created for the Canadian specialty channel, Historical Network. Its premiere on March 3, 2013 attracted more than 1.1 million viewers in Canada. Film critics gave the show high praise after its first installment with Metacritic, giving it 71% and a whopping 77% at the end of its second season. Based on reviews from 12 professional critics, Rotten Tomatoes gave the television series a 92% rating. The historical drama TV series has been steadily gaining admiration season after season and everyone is looking forward to Vikings Season 6. If you can’t wait, the following might quell your excitement a bit.
Vikings Season 6 – Plot and Background Details
This historical cum action-adventure drama was written by Hirst after the life of Ragnar Lothbrok. Ragnar was a Viking leader and hero, known for leading successful raids against England and France in the High Middle Ages. Although it is a legend, the only evidence of Ragnar’s existence comes from works of fiction and myths like Old Norse poetry. Accounts imply that his father was Sigurd Hring, another mythological legend known as the King of Sweden.
Another essential part of this drama is the sons of Ragnar. Ivar the Boneless, Halfdan, Bjorn Ironside and Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye are historical figures who have achieved various amazing feats including winning battles and dominating at one time. There is also a fifth son named Hvitserk, although few details are known about him. Yet another son called Ubbe is recorded as an antagonist of Christianity.
The Vikings draws on the above and other historical sources. Filming for the series has begun in Ireland at a new facility called Ashford Studios. Additional scenes were shot at Poulaphouca Reservoir and Luggala, both located in the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland. A few shots were also taken in western Norway.
This series is officially distributed by MGMTelevision. Shaw Media and Octagon Films were in charge of seasons 1 to 4. Corus Entertainment joined in season 4 and have remained in charge till date. TM Productions also holds credits for Season 5. Take 5 Productions and MGM Television are also credited as production companies.
Five seasons of the drama have aired so far. On September 12, 2017, Vikings was renewed for 20 new episodes, a sixth season.
Season four saw the release of Ragnar, moving the action to his sons as planned. Ragnar hoped his people would return to farming. After his disappearance, Ubbe picks up the dream for season 5. He tries to convince his brothers to give up the life of plunder their father wanted, but no one listens to him. Bjorn is looking to move to the Mediterranean where he is almost certain to find some sort of glory. Halfdan moves with him while Ivar continues to live for conquest; he seems to be fueled by violence and blood and is supported by Hvitserk.
Floki is shocked and probably changes his life discovered for the Norse. Soon he made the decision to offer himself as a sacrifice. This decision was intended to end the bloodshed, especially between the families of Eyvind and Kjetill in Iceland. Both families had a son killed.
Lagertha, of course, attempts to usurp Ivar and Hvitserk and has Ubbe’s allegiance. Ivar strengthens his allegiance with Bishop Heahmund, whose opinion on chastity has already been questioned. As the self-proclaimed king of Kattegat and god of the land, he causes so many disasters that he is referred to as the Dark Ages.
Vikings Season 6 should see a team of Ragnar’s other sons with allies and old foes take down Ivar the No-Good if the matter isn’t already settled in Part 2 of Season 5. We also expect see more of the amazing settlement Floki created for the Vikings on the desolate continent he encountered.
With the arrival of Prophet Oleg in Season 6, it is expected that more events happening eastward will be included in the show. This takes into account his status as a sailor, as you will learn from the last part of this piece.
A special appearance by Davina Eriksdottir is also expected. Being a fictional character, we’re waiting to see where he appears.
Honestly, a lot can’t be imagined that Vikings Season 6, only Part 1 of Season 5 consisting of 10 episodes, aired. A second part, consisting of 10 more episodes, is set to begin airing on November 28, 2018. This gives fans a total of 30 episodes to look forward to by 2019.
The cast of vikings season 6
Bearing in mind that the show has a massive roster of characters, it’s not a walk in the park to predict who stays in Season 6 and who goes missing. We tried anyway for your reading pleasure. After simple deductions from the Season 5 trend, some of these throws are just guesswork and we hope we pull it off. Plus, there are new casts to watch out for!
Queen Lagertha is rumored to be leaving the play as Katheryn Winnick takes on a directorial job. Winnick herself put this rumor to rest by ‘tweeting’ a photo of the Queen, as seen in Season 6. Luckily, our beloved Queen lives on! She still survives!
Of course, we should expect Bjorn Ironside Ragnarsson played by Alexander Ludwig. Bjorn is the first son of Ragnar and heir to Kattegat, the capital of Ivar. He is married to Torvi, a former princess of the Danes, and has a great desire for adventure, just like his father. One way or another, Bjorn could lead us to distant lands with his adventurous spirit.
Ivar ‘the Boneless’ Ragnarsson born 800 AD swears allegiance to the House of Lothbrok. Ivar is a ruthless warrior who ironically shows serious devotion to his family. His goal is to be known as the “king of the world”. Danish actor, Alex Hogh Anderson, took over this role in 2016 and is expected for more.
King Finehair Harald lost his wife in season 5 part 1 and there are high hopes for her return in the next season. Peter Franzen, a Finnish actor, portrays this character and in real life he is so handsome and different and speaks good English.
Rollo, the first Duke of Normandy and a Viking, ruled for 16 years. His character is beautifully portrayed by British actor Clive Standen. History says that Rollo, born in 845, did not die young. If that’s true, and if the History Channel is tracking events accurately, you can safely say that Rollo is stuck in the cast of Viking Season 6 as the main character for a while, right? Luckily, he’s loved by fans and we can’t wait to see him again.
Russian director, producer and actor, Danila Valerievich Kozlovsky will join the cast of Vikings Season 6 as Oleg, the Prophet, also known as Oleg of Novgorod. Oleg was a prince of the Vikings and was among those who navigated the rivers of countries now known as Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Danila is a winner of numerous awards and is also recognized as an Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. He was the star of Viking, a 2016 Russian film about the story of Vladimir the Great. He is expected to put his acting skills to good use. Ladies, another cast to die for? Oh yes, it is really beautiful!
