The White House administration briefed 30 top TikTok stars on crucial information surrounding the crisis in Ukraine to get ahead of misinformation and convey its message, according to the week.
Influencers were briefed on the US strategic aims in the region by National Security Council staffers and Jen Psaki, press secretary at the White House, who also fielded questions regarding sending aid to Ukrainians, collaborating with NATO, and how the US would react if Russia used nuclear weapons, as per Washington post.
We know that this is a vital route in how the American public learns about the latest, so we wanted to make sure you have the most up-to-date information from an official source, said White House director of digital strategy Rob Flaherty.
Following the event, numerous influencers told the Washington Post that they felt more empowered to dispel misinformation and communicate effectively about the issue; TikTok has been swamped with inaccurate information about the war since it began.
However, Jules Suzdaltsev, a Ukrainian-born journalist who maintains a popular TikTok page, told the Washington Post that he felt the government avoided tough questions. “The energy of the call felt like a kindergarten press conference,” he remarked.
Who Were The 30 TikTok Stars?
The identities of all 30 TikTok stars have yet to be revealed, although it is believed that everyone is a well-known influencer.
Matt Miller, a special advisor for communications at the White House National Security Council, and Psaki led the briefing.
Kahlil Greene, Julius Terpak, Parnas, Aaron Suzdaltsev, Jules Ellie Zeiler were among 30 TikTok stars who kept their views of the white house brefing.
One of the Tiktok creators who was part of this Kahlil Greene, 21, with more than 534,000 followers, said he wasn’t surprised.
TikTok provides all of the information for their generation,” he explained. It’s the first location where people go to learn about new subjects. As a result, he reasoned, it was only natural for the Biden administration to include people like him on the platform.
Ellie Zeiler expressed her desire to maintain contact with the White House and to continue pressing authorities on crucial subjects.
According to Jules Suzdaltsev, a Ukrainian-born journalist who runs the famous TikTok news channel Good Morning Bad News, the entire tone of the briefing was too soft, and officials avoided difficult questions. “The energy of the call felt like a kindergarten press conference,” he remarked.
