Valon Behrami began his football career playing for Swiss club sides FC Stabio, FC Chiasso and FC Lugano. In the 2003-04 season, after a number of impressive appearances with Lugano, he was signed by Italian team Genoa. He played for them in the Series B championship.

He joined Udinese in January 2004 alongside Rodrigue Boisfer in exchange for Mohammed Gargo and Vittorio Micolucci, in a flopped transfer price in co-ownership deal to create “paper” profit.

Genoa bought out Udinese’ rights to the player in the 2004–05 season and loaned him out to Verona in Serie B.

On 25th July 2005, Behrami was signed by Lazio, after an impressive season with Verona, as first a co-ownership deal for €2.7 million. In January 2006, Lazio bought him outright for the same price.

Despite his clearance hitting Rodrigo Taddei’s head and ricocheting into Lazio’s goal to concede their first goal of the match, his 92nd minute winning goal etched Behrami’s name into Lazio’s history books as they won the Derby della Capitale on 19 March 2008 and virtually finished the Scudetto hopes for rivals Roma.

His knee and ankle twisted badly when his studs caught in the turf resulting in a premature end to his 2008–09 season.

On 12th September 2009 he made his comeback as a substitute against Wigan Athletic. His return was however interrupted again for a month by an injury from November. On 20th February 2010 he scored his first and only goal of the 2009–10 league campaign with the opener in a 3–0 home win over relegation rivals Hull City.

Valon Behrami Tattoo

He has a tattoo on his leg that gives a huge insight into his troubled upbringing in war-torn Kosovo. The tattoo depicts him as a child with a football at his feet, surrounded by the distressing sights children may have seen back then.

On his right ankle is an illustration of gun cartridges strewn over the floor while further up the shin are what appear to be fighter aircraft flying across the skies.

He wrote on Twitter ‘All my life in a masterpiece by @Gianluca_Tattoo, thanks for everything.’
