USMNT Starting 11 FIFA World Cup and Squad Breakdown

In preparation for the beginning of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, 11 Borussia Dortmund players will compete for their different nations. The United States World Cup campaign will kick off against Wales before moving on to Group B opponents England and Iran.

Dortmund Gio Reyna, an attacking midfielder for Borussia, has been selected for the final USMNT World Cup roster. Christian Pulisic, a former winger for BVB who is currently playing for Chelsea, will be essential to American aspirations of going far in Qatar. Of the 26 members of the USMNT, 25 will have the chance to compete in their first World Cup. The second-youngest team in Qatar, the United States’ squad, is surprisingly young yet full of talent; 14 of its 26 players play in one of the top leagues in the world.

After qualifying for its first two UEFA European Championships in 2016 and 2020 and placing third at the 2016 competition, Wales, competing in its first World Cup since 1958, is in the midst of arguably its most significant period of international success. The USMNT will face off against Qatar’s most substantial overall group in its eighth World Cup appearance in the last nine. With Wales, England, and IR Iran in Group B, the four countries have an average ranking of 15.

The 32-team World Cup in 2022, the first to be staged in the Middle East, will feature eight groups of four teams each, representing the 32 participating nations. The top two finishers in an individual group will advance to the competition’s knockout stage, which runs from Dec. 3–18, following group play from Nov. 21–29. Eight cutting-edge stadiums in Qatar will host all 64 games of the tournament, and they are all only a one-hour drive from Doha, the country’s capital.

The USMNT played ten of the eleven youngest lineups in the world during the recently ended qualifying cycle, with all 14 lineups falling in the 23 youngest starting XIs in the world going back to October 2020, according to the data that is currently available for eligible teams. Each match is an additional chance for the youthful USMNT player pool to gain experience against elite opposition after a successful qualifying campaign.

Nine U-23 players on the 2022 team’s roster, including Tyler Adams (23); Brenden Aaronson, Sergio Dest, Josh Sargent, and Tim Weah (22); Jess Ferreira (21); Yunus Musah, Gio Reyna, and Joe Scally; tie the 1990 USA squad for the most U-23 players on a USMNT World Cup roster (19). Although Gio Reyna turned 20 on November 12 and Yunus Musah will turn 20 on November 29, the day of the USA’s last group stage match against Iran, this is the first USMNT World Cup squad with more than one teenager on the roster.

While 25 players will attempt to play in their first World Cup in Qatar, the USMNT squad has experience on some of the most powerful platforms in club soccer. The sport’s highest club competition, the UEFA Champions League, is being played by five of the sport’s 26 players this season, and 14 of those players play for teams in the top five leagues in the globe (England, Germany, Spain, Italy, and France).

With players from some of the most illustrious European clubs, this USMNT World Cup roster may have the most impressive list of club affiliations ever at the competition. Christian Pulisic, a forward, became the first American guy to play in the UCL Final and assisted Chelsea in winning the UEFA Champions League in 2020–21. While goalkeeper Matt Turner is working for English Premier League leader Arsenal, defender Sergio Dest transferred this season to reigning Italian champion AC Milan. Juventus, the team of midfielder Weston McKennie, won the Italian league title nine times in a row from 2011–12 to 2019–20.

Many USMNT World Cup players came up via the U.S. Youth National Teams program. They spent time in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, and the U.S. Soccer U-17 Residency Program illustrates the efficacy of the U.S. Soccer player development route.

The USA World Cup team of 2022 is a fantastic group with great potential. Gregg Berhalter, the team’s manager, unveiled his 26-man roster for the United States’ representation in Qatar 2022 on October 10th.

Their most vital position is in the field, where McKennie, Adams, and Yunus are expected to perform at their highest level. Additionally, they now have new fullback strengths after years of weakness. As Berhalter designs a tactical strategy around the pair’s power, Antonee Robinson on the left and Sergio Dest on the right are considered essential stoppers of any opponent’s onslaught.

The United States is off to a fantastic new start at the Qatar World Cup in 2022. Their brand-new jersey has a striking, reinvented design with a blend of contemporary and classic elegance. The home uniform is the traditional jersey with a classic red and blue color pattern, signifying the variety of the nation. The new, more contemporary away kit is royal blue with a spotty, tie-dye appearance.

The team’s left winger, Cristian Pulisic, is anticipated to lead the group in offensive threats. He is by far the most well-known player from America and the team’s biggest name. In addition, he is the only American player to have captured the UEFA Champions League, the most prestigious club cup in history. The U.S. team is anticipated to have Qatar’s youngest roster. The average age of the 26-man squad is 24 years, 175 days, just a year younger than Ghana’s 25.67. Due to their inexperience, the young players will benefit from their vigor, talent, and strategies when playing against more seasoned teams.
