Unrealistic Things Banned In Qatar During The World Cup

The Qatar government restricted the rights of the LGBTQ+ community during the World Cup. It has shamefully prevented the LGBTQ+ community from showing off their identity in public and among others.

However, Qatar has said that LGBTQ+ people can be themselves and pride their identity in private, which cannot influence and impact general people.

The rules of Qatar don’t allow people of the same gender to engage with each other. And, if such activities are done out in public, it would create unwanted public attention, which the government strictly prohibits.

The punishment is harsh for someone caught by the government. The supposed convict could be fined or imprisoned for up to 7 years. However, in some cases, the government even hands out the death penalty for such activities.

The government has issued a warning that they cannot show off their identity in public areas which is quite ignorant considering the grandness of the event.

Hence why, many LGBTQ+ fans of the game are hesitating or straight-up skipping the World Cup.

Forget about the LGBTQ+ community; even if you’re straight, you could be in for a surprise if found dating in a public place.

If you are a straight person and are seen being intimate with someone who is not your married partner, you could still land in trouble due to the Qatari rules and regulations.

Having an intimate relationship with someone without marrying them is seen as a crime in Qatar and most Islamic countries, for that matter.

Straight couples could show and express their love towards each other in private. But, doing so publicly could land them in legal trouble.

The thing is, forget kissing someone in public; an activity as small as touching another person’s hand could be seen as against the rules.

Also, another thing to note for the visitors is that male fans from abroad trying to get close and talk to Qatari females could be troublesome if seen in public.

Qatar has certain criteria that define what decent dressing is.

And if someone is not following it, it could mean no entry into certain facilities and events. One would have to have their shoulders and knees covered at all times.

Not having one’s body completely covered would not give them access to sporting facilities, government areas, and other places.

Dresses that are revealing such as short skirts, dresses that show shoulders, and sleeveless dresses are not encouraged.

Hence, Qatar expects fans to have themselves covered decently if they are to enjoy the festival of football.

Some prescribed medicines that people generally take, such as Xanax, Valium, and others, are banned in Qatar.

Illegal substances and drugs such as weed, meth, cocaine, and more are banned within the borders of Qatar, and the people found with them could be punished severely for it.

Banning and prohibiting illegal drugs and substances could be understood. However, Qatar has rules and regulations that prohibit some legally prescribed medications.

Suppose someone traveling has to have prescribed medicines, and the government rules prohibit it. In that case, they must bring in a detailed report and prescription from the doctor explaining why the patient must take medication. The report should not be older than six months for it to be given validity.

The government of Qatar has put some restrictions on clicking photos and videos of the World Cup.

Fans can click a picture of themselves and have a selfie of themselves and their families. However, they are prohibited from clicking pictures of others around them.

For example, someone with a video camera or a tripod and other equipment will be disallowed from the stadiums and other public places. Qatar government states that clicking pictures and taking videos of others would be considered as violating others’ privacy.

If someone or any media entity wishes to film and photograph the event and fans in public places, they must have a specific visa and a letter of acceptance from the government.

This rule will most strictly be pressed upon journalists and media persons or social media content creators compared to the general fans, however.

Anyone traveling to Qatar for the World Cup is strictly asked to respect their religion and religious views.

Qatar is a majority Islamic country and an Islamic country in general. Anyone trying to steer a protest or a riot or even motivate people into atheism or try to convert Muslims to other religious values would be highly prosecuted.

People are not allowed to speak out profanity or vulgarity, and alcohol will only be available in certain licensed places. Utter profanity or swearing, the Qatari law is stringent and harsh regarding such things.

Likewise, for alcohol, Islamic people don’t drink alcohol as it’s against their religious beliefs. However, for the World Cup, the host nation has made some compromises and will allow fans to revel in certain areas or bars that are permitted and licensed.

Alcohol, however, will not be sold during games inside the stadium.

Hence, these were some things that were utterly banned or slightly restricted in Qatar for the World Cup. As mentioned previously, this World Cup will be like no other.

There has been much negativity and controversy around this World Cup, and the entire world is waiting to see how the month-long football festival goes.

There have been mixed reactions regarding Qatar hosting the world cup and all these things prohibited in Qatar. However, more people have criticized this World Cup in general and want it to fail for many reasons mentioned here and others.

For us viewers, however, we are waiting to see how this massive event unfolds and plays out. We will see some illustrious names take the field for their nation for the last time, and we cannot wait to see the spectacle.

The verdict on this World Cup’s success is yet to come, even though many have already decided the legacy this World Cup will leave behind in their minds.
