UK Standard Visitor Visa: A Comprehensive Guide

Starting December 1, 2020, the UK introduced the Standard Visitor Visa, which has replaced the temporary student visa for short study programs of up to six months. This visa allows students to come and study in the UK for programs lasting six months. Temporary study routes are now limited to those seeking to study English language programs for 6 to 11 months. You cannot apply for a Standard Visitor Visa from within the UK.

Studying for Less Than Six Months

You can apply for a Standard Visitor Visa to study at a UK university if you are 16 or older and:

  • Returning to the UK for exams or retaking modules for which your institution cannot provide a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies.
  • Undertaking an oral test as part of your PhD eligibility.
