UFC: Chidi Njokuani Brother Anthony Njokuani Is A Former UFC Fighter
The inspiration behind Chidi’s fighting career is all thanks to his elder brother, Anthony Njokuani.
Njokuani’s senior brother is a professional mixed martial artist and kickboxer. He has been a professional competitor since 2001 and has been a part of notable fighting brands, including the UFC, WEC, and ONE Championship.
He had initially started his career as a kickboxer, inspiring Chidi to do the same. Anthony is the winner of the Kansas state Muay Thai title and later found success in mixed martial arts in 2003 after winning the Art of War promotion in 2007.
In his kickboxing career, he fought twenty-seven matches and won 25 of them. The elder Njokuani then fought alongside World Extreme Cagefighting from 2009 to 2010 and later with UFC from 2010 to 2014.
He debuted on March 19, 2011, at UFC 128, losing to Edson Barboza but winning the Fight of the Night bonus. His last fight was with Daron Cruickshank on October 4, 2014, at UFC Fight Night: MacDonald vs. Saffiedine.
Anthony lost the bout by unanimous decision and was released from the promotion. Since then, he has been a part of numerous MMA brands, such as Legacy Fighting Championship, ONE Championship, Gamebred Fighting Championship, and Eagle Fighting Championship.
He recently fought on January 28, 2022, at Eagle FC 44, where he lost by first-round technical knockout. Njokuani is on Instagram, where he usually uploads pictures of himself with Chidi.
Brothers Chidi And Anthony Njokuani Share About A Decade Of Age Gap
While the brothers share a lot in common, they share about ten years of an age gap between them.
The eldest, Anthony, is 42 years old since he was born on March 1, 1980. Meanwhile, Chidi was born on December 31, 1988, making him nine years younger than his elder brother.
Anthony had introduced Chidi to Muay Thai when the latter was 10, while the former had just begun into the fighting world.
As the eldest one, he looked after Chidi and became closer to his younger brother. Hence, the current UFC fighter continued to follow in his brother’s footsteps in kickboxing and MMA though he was distant from them during his teenage.
He was involved in skateboarding then but soon discovered MMA at 18 and started a professional career.
The brothers continue to [arctice together and maintain their brotherhood. Their brotherly bond came to a test when Simon Marcus made remarks on Chidi not relating to their 2013’s “Push Kick Promotions: Muay Thai World Stand Off 5.”
As the dotting elder brother, Anthony later scuffled with Marcus backstage for the matter, per Muay Thai Authority. Hence, the Njokuani brothers are a great example of brotherhood despite the age gap.
MMA Brothers Chidi and Anthony Njokuani Net Worth Comparison In 2022
Anthony and Chidi Njokuani have earned a legacy in the fighting world through their extensive time in kickboxing, Muay Thai, and MMA.
Hence, throughout their many decades in all the fighting promotional companies, the Nigerian-American Njokuani has earned some excellent figures all this time.
While the eldest one is currently out of the ring since January this year, Chidi has only begun his UFC career.
Since his debut on February 5, he faced Duško Todorović on May 21, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 206. Meanwhile, he is on his way to fighting his third match in a single year on September 17 at UFC Fight Night 210.
Before his upcoming match, Chidi has bagged the Performance of the Night award both times, earning him a good reputation in UFC.
Hence, his achievements have only added to his earnings, which boost his net worth. The hot name in the octagon is worth more than 1 million dollars and could be a multi-millionaire from his extensive fighting career.
The same goes for his elder brother, who started in the field way earlier than him. However, both millionaire brothers have refrained from speaking about their net worth figures and earning amounts.
Chidi Njokuani Was Born To Nigerian Parents And A Small Family Of Four
The Texas-based Njokuani family had initially immigrated from Nigeria in 1983. Anthony and his parents found it hard to settle into the American way of life, hailing from Africa.
The three welcomed the fourth member of the family, Chidi, in 1988, five years after settling in Texas. The Njokuani parents named Chidi in the Igbo language, which means “God exists,” keeping their Nigerian roots alive.
In an old report by MMA Junkie, Anthony confirms that he struggled to fit among the American kids and was a constant target of bullying. Hence, he started fighting, and that caused a strain between his parents.
That continued even after the eldest son made a career out of fighting. While he has been able to mend things with his mother, Charity, he could not do the same with his father.
Anthony and Chidi lost their father in 2003 and now only have their mother. The family has been reduced to three, while Anthony and Chidi will move forward their MMA legacy with their children.
